A unique
th
piece of fiber artwork by Sarah Nance will be installed on the top level of the Parcade parking garage (8 and
Willamette) and will be part of the First Friday Artwalk on Aug. 3.

Sarah Nance is currently an MFA candidate at the University of Oregon. Her site-specific installations of taut strings
and crystallized salt respond to the subtle and dramatic shifts of light throughout the day. Located in empty and often
forgotten spaces, the delicate forms appear to have emerged from their surroundings. The piece highlighted on the
ArtWalk will be the first of a series of installations in industrial urban structures. Sarah’s work will also be featured
in The Wave Gallery, opening Aug. 18.

The temporary art project helps support goals to incorporate art into parking, reinvest parking funds where they are
collected, and foster arts and the development of artists. Similar to the recent artistic bike corrals and stairwell poetry,
the artwork is also a creative way to promote downtown vitality by incorporating art into everyday objects and places.

For more information, contact Jeff Petry at 541-682-5079.

EUGENE CITY COUNCIL NEWSLETTER PAGE 3
August 2, 2012
