Sam Kamkar <br />www.eugene-or.gov Contact Telephone Number: 541-682-5436 <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />ISSUE STATEMENT <br /> <br />Currently bicycles are prohibited on the sidewalks in the downtown core. This proposed ordinance <br />clarifies that law enforcement personnel are exempt from this prohibition. <br /> <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br /> <br /> Section 5.400 of the Eugene Municipal Code specifies that “No person may ride a bicycle on a sidewalk <br />in that area bounded by the outer limits of Charnelton Street on the west, 6th Avenue on the north, Pearl <br />Street on the east, and 11th Avenue on the south”. This ordinance clarifies that law enforcement <br />personnel are exempt from this prohibition. <br /> <br /> <br />RELATED CITY POLICIES <br />This topic relates to the Safe Community Vision: A community where people feel safe, valued and <br />welcome, and increased downtown development, as well as support for small and local businesses. <br /> <br /> <br />COUNCIL OPTIONS <br /> <br />No formal action is sought at this public hearing. Council action is scheduled for October 8, 2012. <br /> <br /> <br />CITY MANAGER’S RECOMMENDATION <br /> <br />This item is scheduled for public hearing only.
