RESOLUTION NO. 5071 <br />A RESOLUTION IN APPRECIATION OF THE 2012 US OLYMPIC <br />TEAM TRIALS — TRACK & FIELD, KNOWN AS TRACK TOWN 12. <br />The City Council of the City of Eugene finds that: <br />A. It is a great privilege and honor for Eugene to have been the host city for the 2012 <br />US Olympic Track and Field Trials that selected the athletes to represent Team USA at the <br />London Olympic Games. <br />B. The 2012 Olympic Trials were highly successful, setting attendance records and <br />receiving accolades for excellent competitions, well -run operations, outstanding atmosphere, <br />welcoming personnel and volunteers, and free public access to innovative activities. <br />C. Hosting Track Town 12 has immeasurable long -term positive impacts and was a <br />tremendously constructive event for the community. <br />D. The positive community impacts include economic benefit to the entire area, <br />gains in community pride and unity, visibility on a national and international stage that <br />highlights the beauty and livability here, and advancement of City goals related to sustainability, <br />positive youth development and accessibility. <br />E. Organizing the Olympic Trials is a huge undertaking that requires years of <br />planning, countless hours of selfless work, the coordination of many organizations, agencies and <br />individuals, and marshaling of myriad resources. <br />F. Many people and organizations contributed significantly to the development and <br />success of the event. Partners in the Local Organizing Committee include the University of <br />Oregon, the Oregon Track Club, the cities of Springfield and Eugene, Lane County, the State of <br />Oregon, Travel Lane County, Lane Transit District, the Eugene Water & Electric Board, the <br />Eugene and Springfield Chambers of Commerce, and Nike. <br />G. Two individuals, Vin Lananna and Greg Erwin, have especially provided <br />exemplary leadership and dedication to the 2008 and 2012 Olympic Trials, and the resurgence <br />of Track Town USA in Eugene. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EUGENE, a <br />Municipal Corporation of the State of Oregon, as follows: <br />Section 1 . Based on the above findings, the City Council hereby: <br />Expresses its sincere gratitude to the partners of the Local Organizing Committee for <br />their work to plan and carry out Track Town 12, with all its associated community <br />benefits. <br />Extends its thanks to all the volunteers, fans and businesses that contributed to this <br />wonderful community success. <br />Conveys its special, deep and continuing appreciation to Vin Lananna and Greg Erwin <br />
