<br />Mark Your Calendars for Upcoming International Human Rights Day Events <br />Each year the City of Eugene and Human Rights Commission collaborate on events marking the anniversary of the signing <br />of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. International Human Rights Day is celebrated the world over and is an <br />opportunity to reflect and refocus work towards a fuller actualization of human rights. <br /> <br />The Human Rights Commission, in partnership with the Lane County Network for Immigrant Integration, will host a <br />celebration on the theme of Immigrants Rights = Human Rights at 5:30 pm, Wednesday, Dec. 5, in the Atrium. Ibrahim <br />Hamide will deliver the keynote address, and the work of youth who are engaged in human rights work in the classroom <br />and community will be honored. The Human Rights Commission needs everyone’s assistance in choosing elementary, <br />middle and high school age recipients of the 2012 International Human Rights Awards. Nominate a deserving, young <br />person today: [MS Word] [Online Form]. <br /> <br />From 12 – 1 p.m., Monday, Dec. 10, the City of Eugene will present its annual International Human Rights Day staff awards. <br />Public Works is hosting the event at 1820 Roosevelt Boulevard, Maintenance Building 2, and lunch will be provided. The <br />Human Rights Commission will select one individual for an award from each department in the City who infuses work with <br />a human rights perspective. All staff nominated will be publicly recognized for their commitment towards achieving a <br />more inclusive, just and equitable community.
