Captain Meigs, who has almost 17 <br />years of service with the City, is expected to be in New York through the end of <br />November. <br /> <br />The Fire Department is very proud of the work Meigs does and wishes him safe travels <br />and the best of luck in fulfilling his duties on the east coast. He will be a great asset to the <br />people of the region who have lost so much in this disaster. <br /> <br />When responders deploy to large-scale events such as conflagrations or the aftermath of <br />hurricanes such as Sandy, they not only provide a great service to those communities in <br />need, they also bring back valuable experience which is shared with co-workers and applied to the City’s response system <br />here at home. In 2005, the Eugene Fire & EMS Department deployed two firefighters to Hurricane Katrina as part of a <br />FEMA 30-day deployment. <br /> <br />For more information, contact Executive Assistant to the Fire Chief Cinimint Harper at 541-682-7115. <br /> <br />“Turkey Burn” Eliminates Thanksgiving Meal Guilt <br />Enjoy all the courses of that scrumptious Thanksgiving meal this Thursday and on <br />Saturday, Nov. 24, conquer the guilt at the Turkey Burn, a special water aerobics class at <br />Sheldon or Echo Hollow pools. “Turkey Burn” water fitness classes are offered from 9:30 - <br />10:30 a.m. at both locations. The drop-in fee is $5. <br /> <br />Low-impact exercising in the water tones and strengthens through the use of special <br />equipment in the water to resist movement. Participants strengthen core muscles and <br />improve balance while experiencing a workout at the desired intensity. It may also lead <br />participants to take a series of classes! <br /> <br />Sheldon Pool is at 2443 Willakenzie Road; Echo Hollow Pool is located at 1655 Echo <br />Hollow Road. For more information, call 541-682-5314 (Sheldon) or 541-682-5525 (Echo <br />Hollow). <br /> <br />Happy Birthday, Love Food Not Waste <br /> <br />Love Food Not Waste (LFNW) turned one- year-old last week and students at the Village School hosted a great birthday <br />celebration. The Village School is an LFNW participant and prides itself on using food scraps full circle by composting on- <br />site, sending material for commercial composting, and using compost to grow vegetables that are served in the cafeteria.
