Check out the <br />new, two-minute Love Food Not Waste informational program <br />video which features Mayor Kitty Piercy discussing the <br />importance of food waste. The video gives an overview of which <br />materials are acceptable in the compost and what happens to <br />the compost once it is hauled away. The video will be utilized as <br />a training piece for new participating businesses in Eugene. <br /> <br />To find out which Eugene businesses are Love Food Not Waste <br />participants, check out the new interactive online participant <br />map hosted on the City’s website. So far, 95 businesses have <br />participated – spread the word! For more information, contact <br />Stephanie Scafa at 541-682-5652. <br /> <br />Preventive Maintenance “Keeps Facilities Running Right” <br />Preventive maintenance is a full time job for the Facility Management Division’s maintenance section. The Facility <br />Maintenance section has established an aggressive preventive maintenance program to extend the life of building systems <br />and equipment, improve reliability and save energy in over 100 City <br />facilities. The preventive maintenance program provides a cost savings <br />over reactive maintenance programs by keeping building systems and <br />equipment in working order and reducing downtime. <br /> <br />Facilities uses an asset management program to produce monthly <br />preventive maintenance work orders that cover everything from <br />roofing inspections to the backflow preventers in the basements, and all <br />the building systems in between. <br /> <br />Last fiscal year, the maintenance staff completed 4,670 preventive <br />maintenance work orders. Of these work orders, 650 were for fire/life <br />safety devices, such as fire alarm systems, fire suppression systems and <br />Harry Campbell, Plumbing/Mechanical Systems <br />fire extinguishers.
