<br />study, Arts & Economic Prosperity IV, revealed that non-profit arts and culture organizations in <br />Eugene are a $45.6 million industry supporting the equivalent of 1,730 full-time jobs in Eugene, <br />and generating $2.4 million in local and state government revenue. Additionally, the City has been <br />working with its partners to establish a cultural district in downtown as an economic <br />development tool the will attract and nurture Eugene’s growing creative sector and support the <br />regional economic development branding efforts that are focused on creativity, innovation and <br />quality of life. An expanded Shedd Institute for the Arts will have many positive impacts related to <br />local economic prosperity, growing arts and culture in the community, and continuation of the <br />significant momentum that is currently underway Downtown. <br /> <br /> <br />RELATED CITY POLICIES <br />This item relates to the following goals for Eugene, including: <br /> <br />Council Goals <br /> Accessible and Thriving Culture and Recreation: A community where arts and outdoors are <br />integral to our social and economic well-being and are available to all. <br /> <br />Eugene Downtown Plan <br /> <br />Reinforce the creative, distinctive culture of downtown as the arts and entertainment <br /> <br />center of the city. <br /> <br />Provide and promote development and community events that reinforce downtown’s role <br /> <br />as the cultural center for the city and region. <br /> <br />Build upon downtown’s role as the center for government, commerce, education, and <br /> <br />culture in the city and the region. <br /> <br />Downtown development shall support the urban qualities of density, vitality, livability and <br /> <br />diversity to create a downtown, urban environment. <br /> <br />Actively pursue public/private development opportunities to achieve the vision for an <br /> <br />active, vital, growing downtown. <br /> <br />Use downtown development tools and incentives to encourage development that provides <br /> <br />character and density downtown. <br /> <br />Regional Prosperity Economic Development Plan <br /> <br />Promote the region’s natural and cultural resources to enhance cultural tourism. <br /> <br /> <br />Building downtowns as places to live, work and play will support the retention and <br /> <br />expansion of the existing business community and be a significant asset to attract new <br />investment. <br /> <br />Envision Eugene Pillars <br /> <br />Promote compact urban development and efficient transportation options. <br /> <br />- Integrate new development and redevelopment in the downtown, in key transit corridors <br /> and in core commercial areas. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> S:\CMO\2013 Council Agendas\M130528\S1305286.doc <br />
