Children On the Job Learn About Value of Education
About 40 youngsters got a close-up look at what their parents do for a living when several City
departments celebrated “Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day” on Thursday, April 27. More than 6
million boys and 10 million girls participated in the national event, which is designed to expand
opportunities for girls and boys, expose them to what the adults in their lives do during the work day, show
them the value of their education, and give them an opportunity to share how they envision their future.

Police and Fire provided tours and a barbecue lunch for about 30 children, and Public Works Engineering
gave a lesson in surveying, followed by a tour of the EmX project site.
