Parking Services Takes Leadership Role in Regional Organization
Parking Manager Jeff Petry was recently elected to chair the board of directors for the Pacific
Intermountain Parking & Transportation Association (PIPTA) to lead its nine-state membership
base. PIPTA is a national leader in advancing mobility and transportation solutions that improve
access and create better communities.
Jeff was also selected to serve on the International Parking Institute’s Parking Matters
Committee and is a regular contributor to its Parking Matters blog and Parking Professional
Journal. He is recognized in the industry for incorporating art into parking to strengthen the tie
between the parking system and the community.

Try-for-Free Classes Give Patrons Access
One way Recreation Services provides access to many of its activities is to offer “try for free”
classes. These sessions allow patrons to attend and experience a class before paying for an
entire series. This fall, the following six, try-for-free classes will be held at Petersen Barn
Center:
Total Body Workout on Sept. 2, from 6:45 - 7:45 a.m.
Yoga on Sept. 2, from 9 - 10 a.m.
Chair Yoga on Sept. 2, from 10:15 - 11:15 a.m.
Tai Chi on Sept. 2, from 11:30 - 12:30 p.m.
Nia Dance Exercise on Sept. 3, from 1:15- 2:15 p.m.
Watercolor Painting on Sept. 5, from 9 - 10 a.m.
Each of these one-time classes are free, but pre-registration is required. For more information, contact Recreation

Science for Everyone at Eugene Public Library
This year’s Summer Reading theme is science-inspired: “Fizz! Boom! Read!” Coming up, the
Downtown Library will host a number of free, educational, and entertaining talks on the subject.
How does the Milky Way Galaxy relate to the solar system and what can be seen in the night sky?
What about other galaxies? Join astrophysics educator Rick Kang for an illustrated talk about these
questions and more at “Galaxies: Huge Star Cities in Deep Space,” on Tuesday, Aug. 19, at 6 p.m.
Eugene’s 2013 SLUG Queen won the title with a science-inspired campaign – because she’s also
Brandy Todd, University of Oregon (UO) science educator. Come to “Science Is . . . ,”her talk about
public perceptions of science and how everyone can engage with and enjoy science, on Sunday, Aug. 24, at 2 p.m.
