OFFERS FREE FAMILY EVENTS ALL SUMMER LONG EUGENE’S WORKING CITY TV VIDEO WINS TELLY PROGRAMMING AWARD CITY TEAMS SUCCESSFUL IN BUSINESS COMMUTE CHALLENGE AROUND THE CITY EUGfun! Offers Free Family Events All Summer Long EUGfun!, a City of Eugene program, will offer over 50 free, family-friendly events all summer starting Thursday, Jun. 18. While the program runs yearlong, summer events are currently listed in the EUGfun! summer passport, available at Eugene recreation centers, the Eugene Public Library and distributed at 4J schools. The summer event schedule includes live music, movies, dancing, human-powered fun, library events, theater in the park, and more. Fun For All, a free, drop-in playground program for youth ages five – 18, runs Monday – Friday from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. at six Eugene parks, from Jun. 29 – Aug. 21. Children under 10 must be accompanied by a responsible party aged 15 or over. “Arts and culture are integral to creating a vibrant, thriving and livable community” said Colette Ramirez, community events manager for City of Eugene’s Cultural Services Division. “The EUGfun! series is important because it provides accessible opportunities for community members to connect, create, entertain and be entertained all year long throughout our beautiful city.” Passports are available in English and Spanish in print and on the web. The Telly Awards are the video industry’s premier competition for recognition of exemplary video work. This is the sixth Telly Award Metro TV has won. The award-winning video is titled “Public Works – Safer Crossing.” It was created in conjunction with Public Works Engineering staff as a segment of the Working City series produced by the City of Eugene. The four-and-a-half- minute video highlights the partnerships between Public Works, neighborhood groups, and the local school community that resulted in the construction of a pedestrian-activated crossing light on a busy street near a grade school. The video received the Bronze Award for its outstanding production quality in the Governmental Relations category. Award-winning productions illustrate the value of community TV and provide support for the retention of community TV channels in franchise negotiations with Comcast. Municipalities provide the operational costs for the community channels and Lane Council of Government’s Metro TV staff produce government programming in conjunction with jurisdictional staff. City Teams Successful in Business Commute Challenge A total of 13 City of Eugene teams participated in the week-long Business Commute Challenge in mid-May with great results. The challenge encourages employees in the Eugene-Springfield area to walk, bike, bus, or carpool to work for one week in a friendly competition. Two City teams placed in the top three in their size category: the Library earned first place – with more than half of their commutes made by foot, bike, bus, carpool or telecommuting, and Public Works Engineering earned second 2015 Challenge totals: place - both in the extra-large team size. What a great show of leadership  2,584 participants and commitment to reducing carbon dioxide emissions, improving  242 teams individual health, and boosting team spirit! Records were broken all  92,548 miles saved around.
