Summer Reading Program for All Ages at Eugene Public Library
Eugene Public Library’s Summer Reading program helps kids keep their reading skills up while school’s out, learn new
ideas, and try new things. This year’s theme is "Heroes" and all ages are welcome to join in the fun.
Children, teens, and adults can visit any Eugene Public Library location – Downtown,
Sheldon, or Bethel - to sign up. Kids and teens each get a free book to keep, courtesy of the
Friends of the Library. Each time they visit the Library, children can also enter a raffle for
family passes to City of Eugene pools or local museums.
Adults get a coupon for a free coffee from Novella Cafe or $1.00 off a purchase at Second
Hand Prose Book Store, both located at the Downtown Library, plus a wristband flash
drive. Also, adults and teens can write book reviews on the Library website for chances in
free raffles for gift cards.
A full summer of free events for all ages will include hands-on workshops, live music,
topical talks, storytelling, the annual Teddy Bear Picnic, and lots more. For more

Public Works Staff on Boards for Sustainability and Clean Water Technologies
Two members of the Public Works Engineering Division have been tapped for leadership roles in public works advocacy
organizations.
Matt Rodrigues, one of the City’s principal engineers, has been invited to serve a two-year term on the national Center for
Sustainability. The purpose of the Center for Sustainability is to serve as the center of expertise for the American Public
Works Association relating to sustainability within public works.
“You have been selected for this leadership group appointment because of your recognized expertise in the subject matter
areas assigned to the Center for Sustainability,” said Brian Usher, APWA president-elect. Rodrigues chairs the Oregon
APWA Chapter Sustainability Committee and is a member of the City’s Climate and Energy Task Team and has been
involved in a number of sustainability projects and initiatives.
Water Resource Manager Therese Walch has been invited to serve on the board of directors of the Oregon Stormwater
Technology and Maintainability Center. The new center will evaluate innovative stormwater treatment technologies and is
designed to be complementary to the work already being done by the State of Washington Department of Ecology’s
Technology Assessment Protocol (TAPE) program.
“This is a great idea coming to fruition and could have broader utility beyond Oregon and Washington,” said Walch. The
effort is being led by the Oregon Department of Transportation, in partnership with other agencies interested in
stormwater treatment.
