THE NUTCRACKER
VOLUNTEERS BUILD RAISED BEDS AND PLANT SEEDS AT NEW NATIVE PLANT NURSERY
The Nutcracker
To many, the holidays would not be complete without this enchanting holiday tradition. On December
17, The Nutcracker returns to the Silva stage with its colorful sets, imaginative
storyline and dazzling choreography and costumes.
Toni Pimble's unique artistry and creativity is a delight for the senses, with whimsical
dancing that takes the audience around the world and stirs up its sugarplum dreams.
The Eugene Ballet is joined by youth dancers from Oregon for this holiday delight.
The ballet will present five performances of The Nutcracker, Friday, December 17, at
8:00 p.m.; Saturday, December 18, at 2:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.; and Sunday,
December 19, at 2:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. For more information, contact the Hult

Volunteers Build Raised Beds and Plant Seeds at New Native Plant NurserF
On Saturday, December 11, 14 members of First
United Methodist Church helped the Eugene
Stream Team build raised beds from cedar boards
and sow 40 flats of seeds at the program's new
Native Plant Nursery at Alton Baker Park. The
seeds were collected from an ash grove adjacent
to Stewart Woods, which is the site this group
adopted through Stream Team last spring. The
nursery is located at the east end of Alton Baker
Park just behind the new Alton Baker Community
Gardens off Day Island Road. The natural area
that the group adopted is located in Bertelsen
Nature Park in the West Eugene Wetlands.
Members of the adoption group call themselves the
Creation Care Committee's Riparian Redeemers.
They're using the native plant nursery to do the full
cycle of restoration -- collecting seeds and taking cuttings, growing them out at the nursery and
replanting in a natural area, says Lorna Baldwin, coordinator of Stream Team.
The original Native Plant Nursery located at the regional wastewater treatment plant, is overflowing with
stock. The new nursery, like its sister nursery, will be run by volunteers and will produce native plants for
natural areas all over the city. Stream Team volunteers will also be responsible for planting and

maintaining the plants once they are in the ground. The City offers some assistance with watering for the
first two years after planting.
Stream Team provides educational and volunteer opportunities for people of all ages to learn about and
care for the city's waterways and natural areas. For more information about this and other Stream Team
