HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC Minutes - 10/01/07 BCC Interviews M I N U T E S Eugene City Council Interviews for Boards and Commissions McNutt Room—Eugene City Hall October 1, 2007 5:30 p.m. COUNCILORS PRESENT: Jennifer Solomon, Chris Pryor, Andrea Ortiz, Betty Taylor, Bonny Bettman, Mike Clark COUNCILORS ABSENT: Alan Zelenka, George Poling Council President Andrea Ortiz called the meeting of the Eugene City Council to order. A. INTERVIEWS FOR BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS The council interviewed Ruth Koenig, Mindy Frisbee, Mo Young, Jon Belcher, Linda Hamilton, and Twila Souers for a position on the Human Rights Commission. Ms. Ortiz greeted each candidate and explained the interview process. At the conclusion of each interview, Ms. Solomon informed the candidate that the council would make its appointments at the October 22, 2007, council meeting. All candidates for the Human Rights Commission position were asked the following questions: 1. Why should you be chosen to be a Human Rights Commissioner? 2. What is the City government’s role in addressing human rights? 3. What are the most important human rights issues facing the City of Eugene and what are your ideas for addressing those? 4. What do you think are the differences between volunteering for a community human rights group and volunteering for the municipal human rights commission? 5. We recognize that many people apply to serve on the Human Rights Commission because they are passionate for a particular group or a specific issue. It’s important that commissioners have the ability to work on a range of human rights issues. Assess your ability to work with others on is- sues that may not be your top concern. 6. Serving on the commission requires a significant time and energy commitment. Tell us about your ability to balance commission work with other demands in your life.
