HomeMy WebLinkAboutORDINANCE NO. 8917 ORDIAIANCE N0. 8917 An Ordinance amending Subdivision (a) of Section 953 of Ordinance No. 8871 entitled "An Ordinance providing for the establishment of a bureau of fire pre- vention, providing officers therefor and defining their powers and duties, and prescribing regulations for fire prevention and life safety in connection with hazardous materials and processes:", which ordinance was passed by the Common Gounail on the 11th day of February, 1916 and approved by the Mayor on the 12th day of February, 191,6. TJiE CITY OF EUGENE DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: Seotion 1. That Subdivision A of Section 953 of Ordinance 8871} of the City of Eugene entitled "An Ordinance providing for the establishment. of a Bureau of F~.re Prevention, providing Officers therefor and defining their powers and duties, and prescribing regulations for fire prevention and li8e safety in con- nection with hazardous materiels and processes", which Ordinanoe was passed by the Common Council on the 11th day of February, 191.6, and approved by the Mayor on the 12th day of February, 1916, be and the same is hereby amended to read as, follows: " 953• CAPACITY AND LOCATION OF ABOVE GROUPdD TANKS. (a) The location of a tank with respect to distance from tank shell to. line of ad3oining property or nearest building shall depend upon the construction, contents, equipment, and greatest dimension (diameter, length or height) of the tank; (provided, however, that the Council in its discretion may direct the issu- ante of conditional permits where the present condition of the proposed location is safe, but may subsequently become dangerous by reason of encroaching construct- ion; and in such event the Council may direct the issuance of a conditional permit that shall be valid so long as the then conditions continue, with the right to cancel the same and require replacement of the tanks and dykeing) in conformity with the following provisioner a Group A Tanks: Any a11-steel, gas-tight tank constructed in compliance with these or equivalent standards and equipped either with (1) an approved perman- ently attached extinguishing system or (2) an approved floating roof, which is to be used only for the storage of refined petroleum products or other flammable liquids not sub3ect to boil-over, shall be so located that the distance between shell of tank and property line or nearest building shall not be less than the greatest dimension (diameter, length or heighth) of the tank, except that such distance need not exceed 120 feet. psi 492 Groupe B Tanks .Any all-steel, ga.s-tig~it tank construoted in compliance with these or equivalent standards but not equipped either with (1) an approved permanently attached extinguishing system or (2} an approved floating roof, which is to be used only for the storage of refined petroleum products or other flammable liquids not subject to boil-over, shall be so located that the distance between shell of tank and property line or nearest building shall be not less than 12 times the greatest dimension .(diameter, length or height) of the tank, except that such dist- ance need not exceed 175 feet.
