An Ordinance directing the City Recorder to place a charter amendment upon the general
election ballot by delivering the same to the Coun t~= Clerk of mane County, Oregon for the
election of AJovember 2, 1948.
'NH~,REAS, the Common Council by a resolution filed vrith the City Recorder on August
23rd, 1948, resolved that there be submitted to the electors of said city for their approv-
al or rejection at the general election to be held PJovember 2 , 1948 a charter amendmen t
authorizing and empov;ering the Common Council to erect a s eparate City Jail;

~ NOW, THEREFORE:
i .Section 1. The City Recorder of the City of Eugene by and he is hereby directed to

~ prepare and. deliver to the County Clerk of Lane County, Oregon, to be placed upon the
ballot at the general election to be held T~Jovember 2, 1948, the follovring measure:
AN ACT to amend the Charter of the City of Eugene, by adding a new chapter
thereto, authorizing and empovrering the common council of the City of Eugene
to erect and to expend funds in such amount as shall be necessary from the
the City Hall and Jail Fund of the City of Eugene for the erection of a City
Jail separate from a City Hall and repealing all acts and parts of acts in
conflict herewith.

Section 2. The City Recorder be and he is hereby further directed to publish notice
of said measure, together vrith the notice for the general city election in some nevrspaper
of general circulation in the L'ity of Eugene for ten days prior to the date of the election.
Section 3. The City Recorder be and he is hereby directed to prepare the pamphlet
provided for b;= the Initiative and Referendum Law for distribution to the electors of the
City covering the above measure ant any other which are to be referred to the people and
to cause the same to be completely distrubuted at least eight days before the dats of the
election, to-wit: Tuovember 2, 19L~8, and do any and all things necessary and convenient for
the orderly placing of the measures before the people at said election.
Section 4. The Common Council further orders that the above measuro' and any other
charter amendments shall be, together with the rF.gular city ballot, submitted to the elect-
err at the general election of PJovember 2, 1948, and be placed upon ,the general election
ballot by the County Clerk of Lane County, Oregon.
