RESOLUTION NO. 4710
A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING A NATIONAL INTERCITY
PASSENGER RAIL SERVICE.
The City Council of the City of Eugene finds as follows:
A. The City of Eugene and the nation require a balanced and efficient system of intercity
transportation alternatives, including air, rail, bus and automobile.
B.
Corridor.
The City of Eugene is the southern terminus of the Pacific Northwest High Speed Rail
C. Long-distance intercity passenger rail connectivity along the west coast and to the rest
of the nation is essential to the City's citizens and its economic viability.
D. Ridership on Amtrak's Coast Starlight and Oregon's Amtrak Cascades trains
continues to rise monthly.
E. The City of Eugene is working to acquire and restore its historic train station.
F. Congress is presently considering the future of the national intercity passenger rail
system and necessary capital funding authority for high speed rail corridors.
NOW, THEREFORE, based upon the above findings,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EUGENE, a
Municipal Corporation of the State of Oregon, as follows:
Section 1. The City of Eugene urges Oregon's delegation in the United States Senate and
House of Representatives to support the continued operations of a national intercity passenger rail
system, and necessary capital funding authority for high speed rail corridors.
Section 2.
This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption.
The foregoing Resolution adopted the 27th day of February, 2002.
