Absent, Large, McCully and Hendershott. Meeting called to order by the Wiayor. Committee reports were called for:- I The Judiciary, Health and Printing Committees had no reports to make. The Street Committee recommended ;$250.00 be appropriated from the 1927 budget to purchase new equipment fob the Street Department. On roll call, such recommendation was adopted. The Street Committee recommended J B Frey be placed on the pay-roll as a street worker at 100.00 per month. On motion such recommendation was adopted. On roll call, such recommendation was adopted. The Sewer Committee recommended a storm sewer be constructed and in support thereof offered the following resolution vvhich wa:3 unanimously adopted: RESOLUTION BE IT RESOLVED by of Eugene construct a Amazon to 20th Avenue, Jefferson Street, and to 22nd Avenue. the Common Council of the City of ;B;ugene that the City storm sewer on the East side of Washington Street from the on the North si.de of 20th Avenue from Washington to on the West side of Jefferson Street from 20th Avenue Be it further Resolved that the City Engineer immediately prepare plans and specifications for such improvement wOl~k and the City Recorder advertise competitive bids for such improvement work. I Be it further Resolved that the said work be done by the City and that the same be paid for from the sewer fund. The Sewer Cornmi ttee recommended 1;he Sicamore Avenue sewer froru Jefferson Street to Polk Street be re-constructecl and offered the following resolution which was unanimously adopted: RESOLUTION BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Couneil of the City of Eugene, that the City of Eugene reconstruct the sewer on Sycamore Avenue from Jefferson Street to Polk Street. Be it further Resolved that the City Engineer immediately prepare plans and specifications fOr such improvement worl\: and the City Recorder advertise competitive bids for such improvement work. Be it further Resolved that the said work be done by the City and that the same be paid for from the sewer fund. The Sewer Committee also stated some new sewer equipment is needed. No action was taken. The Police Committee brought up the question of purchasing a new patrol wagon and trading in the Police car as part purchase price therefor and several estimates were received. It was finally voted by roll ca.ll, that $600.00 be spent from the 1927 Budget toward the purchase of such vehicle and the matter of kind, type, etc. left in the hands of the Police Committee. The Police Commi ttee further recoffiInended the purcha~:e of a finger-print outfit for $103.50, the amount to be taken from the 1927 Budget. On roll call, such recommendation was adopted. I On motion, it was voted by roll-call there be expencled from the 1927 Budget $470.45 for Street buttons and markers for traffic remllations and the .~ 0 further sum of :jp250.00 for Street equipment. 1~ I It was voted by roll call, 10 new chairs be purchased for the Council Chambers, and Recorders Office and $300.00 of the purchase price thereof charged to the 1927 Budget of the Recorders office. 0:; (:".1.. r-1 The.City Recorder asked that Pauline Strassmaier be placed on the pay roll at $100.00 per month as assistant in the Recorder's office and John Fields be placed on the pay roll for half time at $75.00 per month as bookkeepe . On motion, such re~uest was granted. The Recorder was directed to write T L Billingsley relative to complaints that the steps on the street busses are too high. The City Attorney reported it will require a small amount to print the briefs in the city tax levy case before the Supreme Court. No action was taken A petition was received for the construction of a sewer on the East side of Washington Street from the alley between 12th and 13th Avenues to the Amazon Said matter was referred to the Sewer Committee. A petition was received from Fred E Smith for a segragation of his wife's assessment fo~ the paving of both Fairmount Boulevard and Villard Street. Said petition was referred to the City Engineer for report. An Ordinance levying assessments for grading Lincoln Street from the Sout line of 22nd Avenue ~o the South line of 23rd Avenue, was read the first time and laid over. An Ordinance levying assessments for pavihg Agate Street from the South line of Franklin Boutevard South to the existing pavement, was read the first time and laid over. , " . :J Sixteen sidewalk assessment Ordinances were read the first time and laid over. I An Ordinance levying assessments for paving Birch Lane from the East line of Fairmount Boulevard to the West line of Maple Street, having been read the first time on December 12, 1927, and registered notices sent and all protests over-ruled, it passed. its 2nd and 3rd readings by title by unanimous consent under suspension of the rule and was placed on its final passage. The ayes and nays were called, all present voting aye, nay, none. The Ordinance was declared passed and numbered 6520. An Ordinance lev#ing assessments for paving Lawrence Street from the South margin of 13th Avenue to the North margin of 17th Avenue with concrete paving, having been read the first time on December 12, 1927, and registered notices sent and all protests being o~er-ruled, it passed its second and third readings by title by unanimous consent under suspension of the'rule an d was placed mn its final passage. The ayes and nays were called; all present voting aye, nay, none.
