I Minutes of the adjourned meeting of the Council held at 7;30 o'clock P.M. on January 23, 1928, there being present the Mayor and all members of the Council except I.Ionroe, who was absent. . Heeting called to order by the I.layor at 7;30 o'clock P.M. C A McClain, Superintendent of the Eugene \7a tel' l3oard, vvas presen t and pre- sented a new schedule for street lights starting January, 1928 and spok~ on th~ same, the kind and type of light the City desires was referred to the Fire and '[later Commi ttee. As per the call, bids were received for the construction of a ~anitary sewer in the Alley between Lavvrence and Washington Streets as foll.ows: Oscar Snow $395.00 Peter A Nelson 547.00 Hargreaves and Lindsay 500.50 Said bids were referred to the ~ewer Co~nittee for report and it recommended the bid of Oscar ~now of ~395.00 and, on motion, such recommendation was adopted and the :Mayor and Recorder directed to enter into a contract wi th such successful bidder. The Judiciary Committee presented a taxi Ordinance which was discussed and passed as hereinbelow set out. Street Committee; The Street Committee stated 1111'S l'vloxley complains her'walk at 1231 Olive St was ruined by House mover Lamners in moving a house across it some two years ago and she wishes redress from some source. The matter was referred to the City Attorney and he reported he has had the matter in hand and that collection from Lammers is impossible, The 1~yor suggested no more moving permits be issued Lammers till this claim is adjusted by him. The matter of house-mover cutting limbs from trees along the parking when moving houses was also discussed and the 11ayor directed the Recorder to notify the Inspector of Buildings to see the Ordinance is obeyed. 'rhe matter was discussed and referred to the Finance Committee. Health Cammittee: The Heal th Commi ttee reported the proposed lfSwill Ordinance1f which was here- tofore read the first time, has been abandoned. On mo tion, unanimously carried, such re:port was-'adopted but for a :>type '3 ~ with both panel and wire netting. The petition of F B Wynd to be released urtdeJ.:' the contract of Wynd and Goddard from building sidewalks as advertised under Oatdinance NUf:lbers 6345, 6346, 6348 and 6349, was discussed., and, on motion, such petition was granted on con- di tion the peti tioners fOl"fe it the 5% deposi t on each contrac t. C ouncilrnan Rugh voted "no." The Mayor reported a hea tel" has been purchased for Police Head<luarters by the Inspector of Buildings. Aerial permits were issued to H W Williams at the corner of 8th and Park Sts; Fred B Balcer at 1823,East 15th Avenue; S ;1 Calkihs at 689 East 13th Avenue, ancl F N McAlister at 286 High Street. By unanimous vote, the application o:~ the "Smoke ShOP" for a pool hall and card room at 77,3 VlillametteStreet, was granted. 1~s. Ady filed her report as Police Ii~tron for 1927 ~~d the same was ordered filed. The City Recorder filed his report for the year 1927 and the same was filed and, on advice of the Ci ty At torney, ordered :published in one issue of a local -- paper. " : A petition was filed, asking a stree~j light be installed at the intersection 0 I 'i Kincaid and 18th Avenue. Said matter was .referred to the Fire and V/ater Committee. Ii A petition vvas received to pave the alley between 12th and 13th Avenues from . I Alder to Kincaid Sts. A full front footage beinf:; signed, on motion such petition 'I , was granted. ~! , A COD1;.K_.V1ication and resolution was received from the Farmers Union of Lane Count,y-, protesting the :Meat Ordinance. The same vvas filed. A letter was received from J ~ Marsh of 1509 Interstate Avenue, Portland, asking permission to install garbage wagons and to receive an exclusive franchise therefor. Said matter was laid on the table.
