Said bids were referred to the Street ,Committee for report, and it recommen[e
those bids be accepted after which the work "approved" is wri tten as to each Ordin-
ande number. On motion, such report was approved.
Committee reports were calle'd for: - -
The Judiciary, Street Health, Printing, and Police Committees had no reports
to make.

The Finance Committee redommended that all bills as approved be allowed.
On roll call, such recommendati'on was approved.
The Finance Commi ttee rec ommencled~ the following estima te be paid.
I The estimate of Hargreaves and Lindsay for the improvement
of Fifteenth Avenue from University Street to Agate Street
by paving the same with concrete. $12,056.32.
On Eo!l call such recommendation was app~oved.
The Fire and Water COffimitt~e recommended the City ~ngineer investigate
the matter of the need of fire hydrants in Rive~flood Addition, and that he report
at the next meeting of the Council.
Councilman Large stated the light s on the columns at the East City Entrance
are out most of the time, and he is informed that the boys break the light s as 0
fast as they are installed, and the matter was discuss~d as to the advisability of
discontinuing such service. Said matter was referred to the Fire and Water
Committee for report.
The Sewer Committee reported that work is now commenced on the sewer between
Oak and Pearl Street, and will go forward from this time on. It also reported
work is not yet started on the deepening of the Amazon West of town.
The matter of the petition for a Police Patrol in the East end of town was
discussed, but as no means has been found by the petitioners to finance the payment
of such patrolman, no action was taken.
The reports of the Library, the Buildi~g Inspector, and the Meat Inspector
were pre sented and duly fi led.
A petition was received from Mrs. S. D. Read, asking for a light in Kincaid
Park at,the point were Sylvan Drive crosses tpe railroad track~ and also a
petition was received from A. Ralph Gray and others for, a light on North Park
Street, and also another petition w~s received, asking for a light at the inter-
section of 9th and Jackson St~eet. All three of said petitions were referred to
the Fir e and Wa ter C ommi t tee.
I ~he matter of discontinuing the service of electric l~ghts and the t.6ade I'
at the Avia ti on Field, was taken up and di scussed. The matter of the upkeep of
, the Rest Room at such point was also discussed. It was decided that the whole
ma tterbe refer red to the Park Board far a report a t the next meeting of tae
C cuncil.
There having been filed at the ,preceding m~eting qf the Common Council, al
protest to the paving of 1st Avenue between Van Buren Street and J.l.1adison Street,
the matter was again brought before the Gouncil. ihe original Ordinance for the

,ordinance, which is No. 7083, were both duly read. The original protest to the .

~J I 'assessed valuation of such lots. Attorney H. E. Slattery, Jess Darling, Ray Smith,
T"""\ George Stl;lnley, and others spoke on such.tnatte.l'. After discussion, F. E. Lamb,
as Chairman of the Street Committee, movecl,th'at the protest heretofore filed be
overruled, which motion was duly seconded by Councilman Rugh. Such matter being
put to a vote, those voting aye were Couneilmen Lamb, Rugh, and Monroe, nay, Large
McCully, Hendershott, Washburne and Reid. Such motion was declared lost and the
proposed paving of such street abandoned.
Sixteen sidewalk asse ssment ordinance were read the fi rst time and laid

An Ordinance levying assessments for the construction of a sewer in the
alley, between 3J:-d Avenue ahd 4th Avenue fl'om Polk Street to the West City limits,
together with laterals, was read the first time and la,id ove.ro.
An Ordinance accepting and ratif.)l"ing" the acceptance of the bi.d ofStien
Bros. for the paving of Pearl Street from Third Avenue to Fourth Avenue, in the
City of Eugene, Oregon, was read the first time and passed iobs second and third rea ,ings by
title by unanimous consent under suspension of the rule, and was placed oil its
final passage. The ayes and nays were called, all pre sent vo ting aye, f3J3.y, none.

Ii It was l:-eported Postmaster Yoran has informed members of the Council the .
g5vernment has entered into a contract with George Parsons to haul the ashes from the
!government Post Office building, and tre inQuiry was made if such contract interferes
I~ith the franchise with Bray Bros. After discussion such matter was referred to the
~ealth Committee for report.

I Electric Railway Co. is requested to place a bell at its crossing at 5th and C'!~
Blair Streets in the City.
