There were present the l'v1ayor and all membess of the Council, except Large i:l.nd Monroe. Meeting called ,tdl order by the Mayor. Minutes 01' the rreetings 01' .May lilth, May G7th, and June ord, approved. A petition for the opening of the alley between Willamette and. Oiive Streets from loth Street to North line of Block 1, of Whitney's Addition was presented, and subsequent ~hereto, a remonstrance against such alley opening. The petition and remonstrance having been referred to the City Engineer, and it appearing that the petition did not contain a majority 01' signers along the proposed opening, and that the remonstrance did contain a majority ot' signers, it was on motion ordered that the petition be denied, and the remonstrance gran ted. Mr. Jalres A. Pitt complained or the sanitary condition of a barn in the Block between ~rd and 4th Avenues, and High and Mill Streets, on account of the keeping of cat tle and horses. The ma. tter was r'eferred to t he Health Committee. As per the call, bidS were received for the paving 01' the alley be tween Willamette, Street ~nd Olive Street from 5th Avenue to 6th Avenue, as follows: Hargreaves & Lindsay Stien Bros. $1,467.40 1,215.60 I Said bids were referred to the Street Committee for report, bond sUch committee recommended the bid of Stien Bros. at $1,215.60 be accepted. On motion such recommendation was adopted, and the Mayor and Recorder instructed to enter into a contract with such success1'ul bidder. A communication from Alma Cannon Miller, relating to the Old board sidewalk on South Alder Street was ret'erred to the City Engineer. A peti ti on for the 'paving ot the alley between Broadway and 10th Avenue from th~ alley at the center ot' Block 15, MUlligan's Donation, West to the East side or Charnelton Street, was on motion, granted. Mabel H. Chadwick requested from the City the right to use the City Park squares and curbing in connection with the rodeo to be held here on the ord and 4th or Jul.yr. The request was on motion granted. A petition for the widening of Columbia Street from Gord Avenue to Reed Avenue wa;s read, and on motion gran1;ed, and the City Engineer directed to prepare the necessary plats and surveys. I Application or Flora Snider to operate a Room~ng House at 508 Willamette StrE:et, with the approval of Chief of ,Police Strait thereon, was ordered gran ted.. The l'ailure 01' the City to assess the cost ot' sidewalk along the South 100 feet 01' Lot 4, Block 19, Fairmount Addition to Eugene, as shown by Ordinance No. O:;1865,was calle,d to the attention of the Council, and rererred to the City Attorney. T:e.e bill 01' Andrew Holton was continued for consideration, upon the explanation 01' the City Engineer, Mr. Clubb, that Mr. Holton h:;,d gone East f'or a two months trip, and was re,rerred to Mr. Clubb to take up with Mr. Holton upon his return. The invitation extended by the Redwood Empire Association to the Mayor and City Council to attend the Coa.stwide Bridge and Highways Celebration on June 2~, was presented and filed. < The City Recorder called the at,tention 01' the Council to the assessment against Lot 7, Block 1, Shelton's Second Addition, in the principal sum 01' $205.90, stating that this Lot was owned b.y Lane County, which it acquired l'rom tax 1'oreclosure, and that County JUdge Barnard had expressed the opinion that the county would be willing to take over the interest or the City in this Lot and pay the principal amount 01> $2:05.90, provided the City would reI ieve them t'rom the accumulated intere.st an d costs o:r this lien.
