of 7:30 o'clock P. M., on May 26, 1930. There were present Mayor Wilder- and all
members of the Council except Simon, Washburne, and ZUffi\ival t. Meeting called to
order by the Rfuyor.

Committee moved that the contract be awarded to Oscar
bid, and the motion was seconded and carried.
A 1~. J. L. LeMaster of Corvallis, appearing for three students who desired
to open a Tom Thurhq Golf Course, asked what wouid' be the atti tude of operating
on Sundays. He was advised that the Sunday Ordinance prohibited Sunday amusements
of this character.
1~. Worden from the Federal Prohibition Office asked the council to revoke
the license of the Robt. E. Lee Taxi Company. Some di fferent angle s of the si tua-
tion was discussed, and no action was tillcen.
The matter of the adjustment of claim of the Western Oregon Conference
Association of Seventh Day Adventists for damages on account of taking a portion
of Lot 11, Block 2, in Fainnount Heights for the improving of Columbia Street
was discussed on report of the Judiciary Committee, but no final action taken.
Chairman Large of the finance committee recommended in the matter of the
claim of Laura Traschel for damages that if she will file a complete release and
exoneration of the City, that the City will give her $50.00 in full settlement.
Motion was made, seconded, and carried to adopt the recommendation.

Chairman L~nb of the Street Committee reported the purchase of a ford
coupe for the City Engineer at a price of $664.50. On motion the action of the
street committee was approved.
Chairrlliill Hendershott of the Fire and Water Committee asked the instruction
of the cow1cil in regard to the fire department answering outside calls. It was
the consensus of opinion that the City fire apparatus should not be sent out of
the city except in cases of great emergency and general conflagration, and that
the Chief of the fire department should use careful jUdgment as to the necessity
or advisability of ma}cing outside fire calls and that little good could be accomp-
lished by remote trips to isolated fires. It was also recommended that the fire
chief curtail the use of fire apparatuses in miscellaneous parades and advertising

Chairman Hendershott also reco~nended installation of a street light at the
alley intersection between 8th and Broadway and High and Mill Streets.
Chairman Monroe of the Police Co@nittee stated that the chief was in need
of an automobile and suggested for the councils consideration the purchase of a
second hand car, and the chief was advised to get further prices on other second
hand cars and report back to the council.
Mr. Monroe al so reported the im tallation of "C:a:ution" and "Slow" signs at
the intersection of Sixth and Polk Streets.
I t was ordered that the Chi ef of Police purchase for the police and fire
departments one dozen books on first aid training.
A request of the Oregon Electric Railroad Company for permission to make
repairs to their tracks between Blalr Blvd. and Almaden Street in the manner
suggested by their letter as a temperary repair was referred to the street
committee and city engineer.

The offer of the Sch~ol District No. Four to pay $69.92, being the princi-
pal of a sewer assessment against Lot 10, Bloc}c 3, Shaw's Second Addition, pro-
vided that the City would remit the accrued interest from November 17, 1904, was
. referred to the finance committee.
A communication from the State Board of Health regarding sewage disposal
was referred to the City Engineer.
A communication from the City Planning Commission asking the council to
submit all street vacations for its approval before the vacation takes place was
read and filed.
A letter from Clyde Huntley, advising the Recorder that the Internal
Revenue Department had requested the bure811 to provide a rental of $10.00 per

1930, directed the Recorder of the City of Eugene, Oregon, to issue notices and
cause the same to be published in a newspaper of general circulation published
in the Ci ty of Eugene, Oregon, that a hearing would be held at the regular meet-
ing of the Ci ty Council of the Ci ty of Eugene to he held on Monday, the 26th day

WHEREAS, the Recorder of the City of Eugene posted said notices and deliver
ed a copy thereof to the Register Publishing Company of the City of Eugene with
instructions to publish said notice, and

of said notice early enough so that there could have been thirty days' notice

The following resolution for sale of Lot 12, Block 3, College Hill Park t,o

adopted:

VffiEREAS, the City of Eugene purchased from Lane County at Sheriff's sale
the hereinafter described property, for the purpose of protecting the City's
interest as a lien claimant in said property, and
VffiEREAS, the Intermountain Building & Loan Association of Salt Lake City,
Utah, holds a mortgage interest in said property, and. has paid to the City of
bugene the total amount of the taxes and liens held by said City against said
property, towit the sum of $680.75, now therefore be it resolved,
Tha t the Ci ty of Eugene convey sai d pro pe rty by deed to said Intermount ain
Building & Loan Association of Salt Lake City, Utah, and that the Mayor and Record-
er execute said deed in behalf of said City of Eugene. The said property herein

Five sidewalk Improvement Ordinances were read the first time, and passed
their second and third readings by title by unanimous consent under suspension
of the rule, and was placed on their final passage. The ayes and nays were called,
all counci Imen voting a~le, nay, none, ab sent Simon, Washburne, and Zumwalt. The
Ordinances were declared passed and numbered from 7791 to 7795, both numbers inclu -
i ve.
Nine sidewalk Assessment Ordinances, having been read the first time on
May 12th, 1930, and registered notices for protest having been sent, objections
were called for. l'vIr. E. L. Coffin objected to the amount of assessment for con-
struction of a sidewalk on the East side of Agate Street assessed aGainst property
described as: Beginning at the Nort:J:1JNest corner of Lot 6, Block 2, of Cherry
Grove Addition to Ragene, Lane Co., Ore., and filnning thence South 80 feet, thence
East 64 feet, thence Horth 80 feet, thence West 64 feet to the place of beginning.
The City Engineer went over the assessment and explained it to the Council and the motion
was made and seconded that the council finds and determines that the proposed asse s-
ment was legal and just, and that the objection t,hereto be denied. The motion
was carried. Said ordinances were read the second time, and passed their third
readings by title by unanimous consent under suspension of the rule, and were
placed on their final passage. The ayes and nays were called, all councilmen vot-
ing aye, nay, none, absent Simon, Washburne, and Zumvvalt. The Ordinances were
:1 declared passed, and numbered from 7795 to 7803, both numbers inclusive.

An Ordinance prohibiting driving across p,rivate property from one street
to another, cutting the corner, and ente,ring streets from :private property, as a
matter of passage, was read the first time, and passed its second and third read-
ings by title by unanimous consent under suspension of the rule, and was placed
on its final passage. The ayes and nays were called, all councilmen voting aye,
nay, none, absent Simon, Washburne, and Zumwalt. The Ordinance was declared
passed and numbered 7805.

Comment on the dangerous condition of the Northwest corner of Eleventh and
Pearl Streets by reason of approaches to the Firestone Station was made and it
was ordered that the owners of property or tenants be required to establish proper
barracades at the corner of said station at the direction of the City Engineer.
On motion, the Council adjourned.
