Wilder with al.l Councilmen present except Monroe. , { , Minutes of the regular meeting of July 14th, 1930, and of the adjourned r meeting of Ju~y 28, 1930, were read and approved. Bids for the purchase of Oity of Eugene Power and Light Bonds were opened ~ I and read and referred to the Eugene Wa tel' Board for c onsi derat ion. I ( A remonstrance against the paving of the alley running east and west be- tween Olive and Charnelton streets and between 7th and 8th streets was read, and Dr.. York and Mr. and Mrs. Blaine Hovey spoke for the remonstrance and Joseph , Jacobs against it,. Councilman Lamb moved that the remonstrance be overruled and " the motion was seco nded. Councilmen voting for the motion, Washburne, Simon, . Lamb,. Reid, and Large; against the motion Hendershott and Zumwalt. i Mr. E. E. Jepsen questioned the amount of his assessment on the improvement ,I of 24th Avenue, although stating that he did not wish to appear as making an ob- ) I jection or remonstrance. The method of assessing was explained to him. Chairman Large of the finance committee recommended that the Treasurer be instructed to purchase f~om Tucker Hunter Dulin and Company out of the Eugene Trun Sewer Sinking Fund, due Sept. 1, 1942, $5,000.00 Clackamas County Road bonds at 4*%, due May 1, 1942; on the basis of 4.20, Approximate price 102.8, and $5,000.00 Multnomah County Road bonds at 4~, due Sept. 1, 1956, basis 4.15, ap~roximate price 105.5, as inve stment of the sinking funds of the Eugene sewer 570 bond~ due January 1, 1957. A motion was made, seconded, and carried to adopt the recommenda- I tion. c I Mr. Large of the finance committee also moveu that the city make a formal offer to Fred E. Smith, attorney for Mrs. Traschel, Qf $400.00 as full settlement of her claim for damages against the ci ty . A petition of the Electric Cleaners and others for a street light at the intersection of the alleys between Willamette and Olive Street and 13th and 11th Streets, and a petition for a fire hydrant in the vicinity of 4th and Polk Streets were read, and Chairman Hende~shott of the fire and water committee moved the granting of these petitions, and the motion was carried. Councilman Hendershott also moved that the Fire Chief be granted permission tio a ttend the convention at Corvallis and, the annual Fire Chief Conven tion of the Pacific Coast at Oakland, California, on Sept. 1st to 4th. The motion was second- ed and carried. Councilman Hendershott, as Chairman of the playground committee, stated I too t plans were being considered for the construction of a concrete swimming pool at Riverview Park, and that he would like an expression of the Council favoring the installation of the swimming pool with the understanding that it was not to be financed by the city, and a motion was made, see on de d , and carried that the . city approve this project if it, can be carried out as suggested. Mo tion was made, seconded, and carried that the ci ty finance the cost of guards at the swimming pool for 10 days at $5.40 per day following the expiration of the summer playground program. Mr. Hendershott also presented the reques~ of the Eugene Gun 'Club for a lease of a shooting ground at the aviation field, and the matter was on motion . referred to the Judiciary Committee. I The Chief of Police was instructed to have the rubbish cleaned from the l streets and sidewalks adjacent to the building on the Southeast corner of 13th and Willamette Streets. I An offer of G. W. Thompson to pay the city $400.00 for Lot 10, Block 6, I Shelton's First Addition was read and on motion rejected. I t An application of Mrs. J. W. Maltman for a rooming house at 560 Post Office Drive, approved by the Chief of Police, was on motion granted. 1~yor Wilder appointed Clair W. Larsen to the city police force to succeed Officer Schulze , resigned, the appointment to take effect August 1st at a salary of $125.00 per month. A motion was rnade'to conf"irm the appointment and instruct the Recorder to draw warrants in payment of his salary at the time , regular salarie are pa i d each mon th .
