I ......: ;~ Minutes of the regular monthly session of the Common Council, held at 7:00 o'clock P. M., October 14, 1930. Council was called to order by Mayor H. E. Wilder with all Councilmen present except Simon, Hendershott, and Monroe. Minutes of the regular meeting of September 8th, 1930, and of the adjourn- ed meeting of September 22nd, 1930, were read and approved. Calkins oalled attention to the oondemnation suit brought to aoquire title to 4.71 aores at the munioipal airport, and stated that it was 4i- apparent that the defendants were going to oontend for a muoh higher prioe for the land than it was really worth and thought possibly the Counoi~ would wish to oonfer as to what they actually were demanding for the property, and upon motion it was ordered that the matter be referred to the finance oommittee. The reports of the Hob! Airways Company for the month of August, the Building Inspector for the month of September, and the library for the month of August were place d on fi le. ~he proposal of Lane County to buy or sell in settlement of County taxes and City liens against the Opal V. Nickum property, South of the Clave traot in South~ east Eugene, was referred to the special oommitteeon property. The petition of property owners for Grading and Graveling Taylor Street betwee Seventh Avenue and Eighth Avenue was referred to the Street Committee. Petitions for the removal of balm trees on the south side of 20th Street between Kincaid and Alder Streets and in the vicinity of Fourteenth and Charnel ton Streets, the roots of whioh were growing in and ologging sewer systems, were refer- I red to the City Engineer to take up W.ith the Park board the matter of there removal Application of Anna G. Baker for dance hall license at 8th and Charnelton Sts. approved by Chief Hall, was on motion granted. Nine Sidewalk Improvement Ordinances were read the first time, and passed their seoond and third readings by title by unanimous oonsent under suspensionof the rUle, and was placed on their final passage. The ayes and nays were called, all Gouncilmen voting aye, nay, none, absent Monroe. The Ordinances were deolared passed and numbered from 7915 to 7923, both numbers inclusive. Seven Sidewalk Assessment Ordinances were read the first time and laid over. Counoilman Lamb moved that the ,Engineer be instruoted to purohase exoavation dirt now being excavated on the Sohaefer's property at the Northeast oorner of Eleventh and Willamette streets at a prioe of 25~ per yard, and that the same be ~ used for filling in along the Mill Raoe on Franklin Street east of the anohorage. .' The motion was seoonded and carried. An Ordinanoe permitting the operation of golf oourses and tennis oourts and the pl83ing of golf and tennis in the Ci ty of Eugene on Sunday was read the first, time, and passed its second and third readings by title by unanimous oonsent under suspension of the rule, and was plaoed on its final passage. The ayes and nays were called, all Councilmen voting aye, nay, absent Monroe. The Ordinanoe was deolared passed and numbered 7924. On reoommendation of the Chief of Polioe and Polioe Committee, motion was made and seoonded that ~D. 'E. Cash be employed as patrolman on the Police foroe at a salary of $125.00 per month, and that he be placed on the regular City pay roll, and that warrants be drawn for his salary at the time all regular salaries are paid. ~he 83es and nays were oalled, all Counoilmen voting aye, nas, none, absent Monroe. C. :Macey requested that an alley light be installed in the center of th I' II block between ,5th and 6th Streets and Olive and Charnelton Streets, and it was referred to the Fire and Water Committee. I e I Mr. George York .su.ggested to the Counc.il aonsideration of the placing of stop signs or slow signs at the intersection of 13th and University,Streets and I 13th and Kincaid Streets and relief from a parking situation on the North end of University Street, and also requested that the Council give further considerauion to an old request for improvement of the alley between Emerald and Onyx streets and 18 th and .19th streets, and these matters were referred to the Street Committee On motion Council adjourned to meet at 7:30 o'clock P.
