Millutes of the adjourned meeting of the Common Gouncil, held at the
hour of 7:30 o'clock P. M.,April 25,1932. Council was called to order by Mayor
Elisha Large with all oounoilmen present except Jones.
:Mr.. Leighton and Mr. :Oixon of the Central Heating Company disoussed
wi th the Council the use o:f the alley between Lincoln and Lawrence Streets and
First and Seeond Avenues, and Mr. Dixon offered to contribute gravel to the
. amount of $40 or $50 :tor improving First Street if the City would grade the
street and spre~d the gravel. The matter was left to the Street Commi ttee to
work out with the Central Heating Company.
Cha1man Hendershott of the Finance Committee recommended that the
Counoil awarcl the 'contract to audit the City books for 1931 to lIr. George
Carpenter'f'ol~ $200.00. On motion, duly seconded and carried, the recommendation
was adopted.
By .request the electrical ordinance was laid over.
Chairman Bond of the Fire and Water Committee recommended that the
Recorder advertise for bids for 300 feet of It inch hose and for 2t inch hose to
the extent of the balanoe available-- in the budget. On motion seconded and
carried, it was so ordered..

Chairman Zumwalt of the Health Committee suggested consideration of an
ordinance :rox' aondemnation of old buildings, and City Attorney Calkins was
instructed to prepare an ordinance for this purpose.
Application of Maggie Burns Maughn for a rooming house license at 88
West 8th Street, approved by Chief of Police Bergman, was on motion granted.
Counailman Bond moved that the City enter into the leases with Foster
and Kleiser Co. of Lot 27 Mathews Park, Lot 1 Foster's Addition, and the West
130 feet of lot 77 Foster's Addi tion as submi tted. Motion was seaonded and
aarrl-ed.

Chairman Reid of the Sewer Committee recommended that the 8 inoh sewer
between 11th and 12th Avenues from Madison to Van Buren sts. is too small and
that it be replaced wi th 15 inch and 12 inch pipe, the wOl~k to be done under
the unemployment program and the material, estimated by the Engineer to cost
$586.00, to be paid out of the Trunk Sewer Bond authorization. Motion was made,
seconded, and carried that the work be done if satisfactory arrangements can be
made for financing the proJeat.
On motion it was ordered that lumber be purchased for the construction
of tables in City Parks at an estimated cost of $15.00.
Councilman Reid n~ved that the Recorder, in cooperation with the
Engineer and City X.reasurer, purchase the necessary blanks and binders for re-
writing the Lien Records in the Treasurer's office. The motion was seconded
and carried.
On motion it was directed that the Recorder communicate with the
Library Board regarding the cutting of their budget to allow for a probable loss
of 20% in collection of taxes.
On suggestion from Councilman Lamb, it' was decided to use the wood cut;
from City Parks in the Police room, City Jail, and Fire Dept., and Street pavingJ
and local use a t the Ci ty shops, wi th any unused balance to be sold to the best
advantage.

Councilman Edwards was directed to take up with the Park Board the
matter of reducing the number of elk in the City Park.
The .reque st of Mr. Farmer, Park Superi ntendent, for window screens
was presented, but the Council expressed t'he opinion that the providing of a
house for him was as much as the City should do, and that he should be directed
to furnish his own screens.
