Counc il vms called to order by Mayor Eli sha Large with all Gouncilmen present except Reid and Scobert. I LIinutes of the regular meeting of Uarch 27, 1933, and of the Special meeting of Aoril 3, 1933,. were read and approved. An audience beinp; present, was asked to address the Council, and remarks weI'e made on the matter of LUlIe and I,Leat Inspection, and discussion of the acts of the Council with x'ef'erence to the present Inspector. Remarks w.ei?e made b.y i,irs. Horton, Mrs. Gauley, Inspector Lawrence, and i,lr. Reese; and communication read from the Parent Teacher's Association and the .Board of Healtp.. No action was taleen at this time by the Council. . - Chairman Hendershott of 1:;he Finance Commi ttee reported the following bills to the Council \Jvith the recollliIlendation that they be allowed, and motion was made and seconded that warrants be drawn for the same. Ghairman Lamb of the St.r'eet Commi ttee reported a tree in the alley at 163 Sixt Avenue East obstructing traffic, and on motion the Gity Attorney was dil~ected. to take steps to have the tree removed. I Chairman Bond of the Fire and Water CO~l1ittee recom~ended that the bid of the Jfugene Foundry for :six fire hydrants at '1P44.60 each be accepted, upon the expressed cOi:1dition that the hydrants must be exact,duplicates of those now in use. the had /,1/ Police Committee, by Chairman Dr. Sienon, reported that they had services of Frank Cronin as Desk Sergeilllt on l',larch 31, 1933, and the approval of the Council. discontinued this action ~ . . ~ 187 --- ---~-~, --~---~-. ---~---~-~ -----~.-.- -~- --. .-. - -'.-. "-'~ > - - I Mr. Zumwalt suggested that the Council change the lic ense fee for garbage haulers, expressing the opinion that the present license which is issued regardless of the number of trucks covered is unfair for the single truck owner. The matter was referred to the JUdiciary and li'inance Committee. ...... ""';:-. ~~' COilllcilman Edwards, as council member of the Park Board, reported that pursuant to the re~uest of the Council a meeting of the Park Board had been called and held, and tha t the Board had elec ted 1\11'. F. M. Wilkins as Chairman and Wayne Akers as Vice Chairman and Mrs. Maxham as Secretary, and that they were proceeding with plans for outlining the work for the Park Tender and bring up the records of the Park DeDartment. At this time Councilman Reid appeared in Council. The Police Committee, by Chairman Dr. Simon, reported that they had examined, and recommeftd8d that licenses be granted to the following applicants for the sale of non-intoxica ting, malt, and alcoholic beverages: .' I Motion was made, seconded and carried that the recommendations be adopted, and the Gity Recorder be instructed to iS~Qe such licenses, upon payment of said fee. Reports of the City Police Matron for the months of February and March, and of the City Engineer, Chief of Fire Department and Ghief of Police for the month of Wiarch were placed on file. An Ordinance regulating those following the trade of installing and maintenancE of Plumbing in the City of E'ugene, was read the second time in full and on motion WeS read the third time and placed upon its final passage. The ayes and nays were callEd Councilmen voting aye, '7, nay, none, absent Scobex't. The urdinance was declared passed and numbered 8328. I An application of Mr. E. L. Councilman Hendershott rej)orted that the Benefi t Virestling I~latch had resulted in the receipt of $159.60 for the benefit of City charit~v, and moved that the City express its thanks both to Llr. Herb Owens, who promoted the program, and also to the men who very kindly donated their services to this charitable purpose. On motion the Council ad,journed to meet April 24th at 7:30 o'clock P.M.
