Wallace Wint lel', Chairman of the -Fourth. of July Commi ttee, appeared before the
Council with a l~equest that the right of all Fourth of J-uly concessions, covering
the periOd of the celebration from Saturday until Tuesday, be granted them, and
I also that they be eranted the .r.Lght to close Eighth Avenue from Willamette to TI:ast
Park Str~ets, and Oak f-::,oi~1 .3roadway to"Hor,~~ Park Streets during the period,of the
'I celebratIon, and. the pJ:'lvllege of clos.lng ,hllamette from SelTenth to Tenth Streets
on the Fourth of Jl:lly. Motion ViTaS made, seconded and carried that the request be
I granted.

The Judiciary Committee and City Attorney presented the proposed new Electrical
Ordinance, aDd the City Attorney explained its provisions, and Mr. Irracy A. Stockel',
I representing a number- of Electl"icians, discussed the Ordinance, after which it was
1 referred back to the City -Attorney to bere-drafted and submitted to the ~oard of
Appeals for their advice to the Council.
! Chairman Render-shott of the Finance Committee reported the following
I the Council with recommendation that they be allowed, and motion was made

The Police Co~nittee reco~nended that the applications of A. L. Yates for
General Retailer's Beverage License, and Lionel Brown for Wholesaler's License,
be granted. The motion was made, seconded and carried that the recommendation
be adopted.

Re90r t s of the POlic e Department, Ci ty Engi nee1", and Fire De partment for
the month of May, and repo_t:'t of Mrs. Richardson, Police Matron, for the months
of April and May, were read and placed on file.
The Bond of John B. Johansen, as garbage hauler, executed by the new
Amsterdam Casualty Company, was on motion approved.
A communicati on from L. R. Stockman, Consult ing Engineer of Baker, Oregon,
was read and placed on file.

The proposition of C. L. Kelly, Manager of the Miner Building, that the City
should contribute part of the cost of maintaining a Ladies Rest Room, was on
motion tabled.
pomplaints of Ewe~ Transportation Co. and the Comnercial Car Repair Shop
and Storage regarding a walnut tree in the alley between Oak and Pearl and Fifth
and Sixth were read and Councilman Edwards reported the previous action of the
Park Board granting a temporary continuance of the tree under the erroneous
impression that there was no travel through this alley. Councilman Lamb moved
that the Council direct immediate removal of this tree as a nuisance and menace
to traffic. Motion was seconded and carried.
Communication to Mayor Large regarding ~1e status of projects under the
Reconstruct ion Finance Corpora ti on and t he me thods of handline; and financing any
City projects was read before tp.e Council and filed.

An Ordinance declaring the intention of the Corr~on Council of the City of
E'u.geneto make a l~eassessment of the cost of paving Washington Street from 13th
Avenue West to 19th Avenue livest in the Ci ty of 1u,gene, as the same abuts the
properties hereinafter described, and fixing a time and place for holding a
meeting of the Co~non Council at which all protests against such reassessment
shall be heard, and directing the giving of notices, was read the first time and
passed its second and third readings under suspension of the rule by unanimous
consent of the Council, and was placed upon its final pa~sage. The ayes and nays
were called, Councilmen voting aye 7, nay none, absent Scobert. The Ordinance
was declared passed and numbered 8333.
An Ordinance declaring the inte.ntion of the Common Council of the City of
Eugene to make a reassessment of the cost of constructing a sewer in the alley
between Lawrence Street and Washington Street, from 15th Avenue West to 19th
Avenue West, in the City of Eu@9ne, as the same benefits the properties here-
inafter described, and fixing a time and place for holding a meeting of the
Common Council at which all protests against such reassessment shall he heard,
and directing the giving of notices, was read the first time and _Dassed its
second and third readings under suspension of the rule by unanimous consent of
the Council, ~~d was placed upon its final passage. The ayes and nays were called

On motion seconded and carried Councilman Zumwalt was authorized to purchase
eight tons of hay for feeding the Elk in the City Park.
City Engineer Clubb reported his investigation of the installation of a steel
flag pole in the cupola of the City Hall Building, and on motion, seconded and
carried, was au thorized to make such installat ion.
On motion the Council adjourned to meet June 26th at 7:30 olclock P. u.
