I ~l: ~ Minutes of the regular meeting of the Common Council held at the hour of 7:30 o'clock P.M., July 9, 1934. Council was called to order by Mayor Large, with all Councilmen present except Mr. Reid. Minutes of the regular meeting of June 11th and the adjourned meeting of June 25th were read and approved. That the Finance Committee had purchased the~following Bonds for Sinking Fund Investment-s: From Camp and Company: $3,000 Salem Sewers, due in51948, and $5,000 Salem Sewers-due in 1949 on a basis to yield 4.40 per cent. 0 -- From Blythe & Company: $5,000 ~ugene Sewers at 4~ per cent, due 1fuy 1, 1945 at 95.85. . From Ferris & Hardgrove; $2,000 Eugene Sewers at 4~ per cent, due May 1, 1945 at 95~80, and $2,000 Eugene Paving Intersections at 4-;f per cent due Fe~. I 1, 1945 at 98. From Hess Tripp & Butchart, $4,500 Springfield School District No. 19, 5t per cent Bonds due January 1, 1936, to yield 4.80. Mr. Hendershott moved that the purchase of these bonds be approved by the Council and the motion was seconded and carried. The Finance Commit tee reported the following bills to the Council wi tha recommendation that they be allowed, and motion was made, seconded and carried that warrants be dra~m for same. The Pageant Committee, by Chairman Lamb, re ported that the promoters of the Pageant proposed to purchase a considerable number of street banners which will be stretched across the business streets to advertise the Pageant, and that after tre Pageant they would give these to the City to keep to use for similar purposes, with the privilege of renting them out in the future, and moved that the City accept I I thi s propo si ti on. Motion was seconded and carried. The Co~nittee also reported that they had granted concessions for the parks of North and South Park Streets, which will be closed, and that 8th Avenue East would be kept open during the Pageant. On report of the Health Committee, by Chairman Zumwalt, it was ordered that the matter of cutting the grass in the extension of Willamette Street North of the Southern Pacific right-of-way, be referred to I.Ir. Cook of the Transient Servi ce. ~~. Zumwalt also reported that Mrs. McMurphey would probably make arrangements for removal of the old barn on West 8th Ave. between Charnelton and Lincoln Streets. Recommendations of ,the Park Board were su'bcni tted to the C01.ll1cil as follows: 1. That the road around the North top of Skinner's Butte be made four feet wider. '.- 2. ~hat the cut-off road at the masonry reservoir be blocked off from traffic. 3. That the playground equipment all be moved to the tract lying West of the Pa~k Tender's Cottage. 4. That all posts on the South side of the road be moved to form a line, beginning at the bear pen and running westward along the South side of the road at a distance from the road to leave necessary parking space. 5. That the two toilet buildings between the two roads and near the East end of the Park be moved t'o a si te bacl<: of the store, the exact site to be selected later. 6. That the terraces where the tables now stand be lowered about one foot. 7. That the old band-stand be removed. ! I 8. That the necessary signs for both Skinner's Butte and Hendrick's Parks be provided. 9. That two fou~-way stoves be built for Skinner's Butte and one for Hendrick's Park. 10. That about four hundred feet of two-inch pipe be laid in Skinner's Butte Park for irrigation and other purposes. . 11.
