The Pa~ks Imp~ovement Committee of the Chambe~ of Commerce, by Mr. Cully, presented a request to the City Council that it take steps to guarantee that if the public squares were imp~oved for city parks they would be protected against assemblies, ca~nivals, and other set-ups that would dest~oy the work. A reply from the Eueene Sand and Gravel Co. to the City's reQuest to abate four shacks on their property below the Ferry Street bridee was read, suggesting ilhat the occupants of these shacks had ,prepared to remain there this winter, and asking the further desire of the Council in this matter. The subject was referred to the Ci ty Board of Health to report back at the next meeting. The alleged dumping of garbage on a city lot at the South end of Olive Street was presented and the Engineer instructed to cause a sign to be erected as a warning again st the dumping of garbage. The Recorder presented the proposal of Frank L. Chambers to deed to the City, . Lots 8 and 9, Block 4, Driverton Addition for the sum ofV200.00. Hr. Chambers agreeing to apply the 0200.00 in the payment of City liens to that extent. A motion vms made and seconded that the offer be accepted and a warrant be dravm II in his favor for 0200.00. The ayes and nays were called, COl.lncilmen voting aye 7, . nay none, absent Zumvvalt. f ~ This being the time for the hearing of protests, remonstrances, and object- I ions against the proposed condemnation of the building at 1636 Jefferson Street, I anQ due notice having been given, the lM,tter cam~ on for hearing, and objections were called for and none heard, whereupon the following Resolution was read and on motion adopted. Stephens and Grace Ste.phens as ovmers of said building, requiring them to remove said building and abate the nuisance or to render it safe within twenty days from the expiration of the five days notice, and if they fail so to do, the Council shall order said building removed. Adopted by the Common Council this loth day of Sept., 1934.
