~I The minutes of the regular meeting of the Common Council held Monday evening
:~ at 7:30 o'clock. All councilmen were present with the exception of Mr. Hawn.

I The Judiciary Committee had no report.
I Councilman Farrington, reporting for the Finance Committee, stated that they
,.. had a request from Mr. M. Schroeder for a refund of $25.00 on Lot 4, Block 3, Rees
I Addition. Mr. ~chroeder had purchased this lot from the City on October 6, 1941,
I for the sum of $275.00 with an ag~eement that if building ~as started in 90 days,
. he was to have a refund of $25.00. The City was unable to complete title to the
1 property until March 9, 1942 and after that time it was impossible for Mr.Schroede
to begin construction of a building on account of War regulations. Considering
the fact that the City had been so long in securing title to the property it
: prevented Mr. Schroeder from starting building, it was the recommendation of the
; Finance Committee that the $25.00 be refunded at this time. On motion made, seconded
i and carried the re commenda tion of the Finance Committee was adopted.

I Councilman Barette said the' Street Department had been working hard on cleanin
2 : up the leaves from the streets and that the work would be completed within the next
1 week.

I Counci-lman Stewart, reporting for the Fire and-Water Committee, stated. that
there was a request from J. F. Cramer, Superintendent of SChOOls, for the loan
or purchase of a second hand gaSOline pump that had been removed from service
3 in the Fire Department and it was stored in the shop at the Fire Department at this
time. A motion was made by Stewart and seconded by Bond that this pump be offered
to the school district for the sum of $20.00. The motion was carried.
The Health Committee, Parks Committee and the Sewer Committee had no report~
Councilman Pennington at this time said that the Corr~unity Chest had designate
him to look after subscriptions to the Community Chest from the City employees.
4 He stated that supplies were already on hand and that this work should be gotten
under way at an early date. He requested that the Recorder notify the heads of I
all departments to be at the Recorder's office at 1:15 P.M Wednesday, November
25th to receive instructions and material for this work. ·
Councilman Bond, reporting for the Police Department, said that the Police
Committee had a meeting last week with the group sponsoring the new curfew law.
He said those present were Mrs. . Bonson, ILrs. Te:rry, Mrs. Fredrickson, Mrs. McCoskey,
5 . IvIrs. Gallup, Professor Leeper, Professor Bee, and Al Dietz, Juvenile Officer. He
: said they had a long disc~ssion lasting two or three hours but that there was
no report to be made at this time. He said there was another meeting held at the
Osbourn Hotel since the meeting with the Police Committee but he had no report on
; that meeting.
! A letter from the Board of Appeals was read at this time.

i '.7 "A request has been received from the Pacific Fruit and Produce Company,
I asking permission to remove that port~on of a new chimney which will obstruct
! their loading platform and support that pIDrtion of the chimney on the floor-
which runs through the office room. The Board recommends that this-request
6 be granted, under the supervision of the Building Insp.
,A request has been received from Mrs. A. Ezell aSking for a permit to
enlarge her "Serve Yourself Laundry" at 1255~ Pearl Street. The Board
recommends that Mrs. Ezell be granted a permit to erect an addition on the
south side of the present building."
~ The recommendations of the Board of Appeals was adopted.
: Per'mission for a rooming house at 862 Pearl Street, known as the Central Rooms

I Application for the following eighteen firms for renewal of beer licenses for
i
: the year 1943 was read and the Recorder explained that these were renewals of the
[licenses now in effect. On motion made, seconded, and carried these licenses were
: recommended to be renewed. Recreation Fountain

S. M. Calkins Secretary of the Planning Commission, said that the Planning
Commission had rec~ived a communication regarding the Carroll Auld proper~y! at
: 675 West Broadway. He stated that E. N. Rhoads and. Carl R. Lam~ert, P~ys7c~ans
\ and Surgeons, had entered into a contract to buy th~s property ~f perm~ss~on
