April 9, 1945 The minutes of the regular meeting of the Common Council, held Monday evening, April 9th at 7:30 P.M. The meeting was called to order by Mayor McNutt. All Councilmen present except Bailey and Hawn. This being the date set for the opening of bids for installation of sewers in City Outlook Addition (Ordinance No. 8808), the Mayor called for 'x opening of six sealed bids received at the office of City Recorder. REPORT OF COMMITTEES: '. , !', I; The Finance Committee to whom was referred the matter of Redemption of General Bonds and Improvement Bond Interest, submitted the following report: "The City is holding $205,000.00 in Series nc" lNar Savings Bonds to the account of the general bond sinking fund, together with $6,000.00 in Series "C" bonds to the account of the improvement bonds interest fund, It will be neces- sary to remit $91,000.00 to New York on April 20, 1945, in payment of general bonds falling due May 1st. The maturity and final interest payment date on Series "G" bond is June 1, 1945. We therefore recoIllillend that the City Treasurer be authorized to overdraw the general bond sinking fund to an amount not ex- ceeding $78,000.00, and the improvement bond interest fund to an amount not exceeding $235.00 until June 1, 1945, when the war bond proceeds plus interest in . the amount of $1200.00 beco mes available. 11 " " 'j i'. The Committee on Streets to whom was referred various matters, submitted the following report: "We recommend tha t the South side of 8th Avenue liVest between Charnel ton Street and the alley West be designated as a one-hour parking zone. , We further recommend that the request of Twin Oaks Builders' Supply Co. for temporary use of parking area on Charnel ton between 5th and 6th Avenues be granted, with the u~derstanding t~"at such space be used for shingle storage only until November 1, 1945. In the matter of a request from the Seventh-day Adventist Church for vaca- tion of a portion of Taylor street, and the purchase of a strip of property in the Northeast corner of the old airport, we recommend the following: 1. That the application for street vac8tion be granted. 2. "4:: C;) c..; cc REPORTS OF BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS: The following reports of the Board of ~ppeals were submitted and read: "The Board of Appeals met in the office of the City Engineer, Friday, April 6th at 5:00-P.M. A request was received from Loyall R. Rugh, Realtor, for Mr. C. E. Hammer who desires to build two duplex residences on. the lot at the northwest corner of the intersection of Eighth Avenue and Lawrence Street. This lot is 20 66.8 feet on Eighth and 110 feet on Lawrence~ He is. asking for a waiver of set-back, asking for a set-back of fifteen feet on Eighth and a set-back of twenty feet on Lawrence Street. The Board recommends that this request be granted. A request was received from George H. Friesen asking to be allowed to build a twelve foot addition on the south side of his store building at the northwest corner of the intersection of Agate Street and Twenty-fourth Avenue. This store is in a limites business district and when built was placed to conform to the set-back regulations. The Board recommends that the request for waiver of set-back be denied, but that he be allowed to build an extension on the west end of the building of the same width as the present building. A request was received from Thomas O. Thorson asking to be allowed a waiver of the set-back requirements for an apartment-house on the southeast corner of the intersection of Alder Street aBd Nineteenth Avenue. He is asking for a waiver from 28 feet to 16 feet on Alder Street and from 24 feet to 15 feet on Nineteenth Avenue. The Board recommends that this request be denied." This location is in the duplex zone. The Board is holding this request for plans and details. A request was also received from R. A. Bowers asking for a waiver of set- back on Twenty-first Avenue east at Onyx ,Street. This.is a request on a con- ditioned offer for City property.
