Amazon Project, was submitted and
"I wish,.to report that in accordance with your action" of May 12th,
the undersigneq appeared before the House Sub-committee on War Department Appro-
priations on behalf of the City, School District and Chamber of Commerce with
reference to the Ama.zon. Flood Control, Pro.j ect.
As had been previously pointed, out, the Amaz,on project had been given
approval by the U. S. Army Engineers hut had previously received no appropriation
nor had any work been done on, the project or money expended by the F,ederal Govern-
ment. At the present time, an agreement reac,hedu by the House, Director of the
BUdget and the President's Office would bar any project in this category from
considera.tion. for an appropriation during, the, coming fiscal year.

: call for. bids on surplus items of foundry equipmen.t. at the N. Y .A. Foundry Buildihg.

:, question and fixed a minimum, value of $200.00 on this, equipment. Ther.e was one
i' bidder who submitted an offer of $125.00. It is my recommendation that the Council

There are some exceptions: First the furnace room should have more
fire resistant material even though it has a large vent to exhaust any accumu-
lation of heat which might aid in fire;

In order to eliminate "the code requirement of "two sets of blueprints to
be submitted for permi,t", it is suggested that, the. company furnish the Building
Departinen.t with a complete set, of drawings which 'will be placed on file as a
standard thereafter. An applicant may request a .permit by referring to plan
number' and the application can be so noted. Should the purcha'ser be furnished
with a" set of plans, it may be presented for appr'oval at time permit is requested.
This will eliminate fil.ing many duplicate, sets of' plans.
" Aside from the furnace rooin changes required to make it more resistant
to fir~ and the electrical wiring changes aforeme"ntioned, I bel-ieve the Prenco
House 1]1eets the intent of our Building 'Code. The Pacific Building Officials
Conference are preparing a report for this type of house and it should be available
very s9on. I do not believe it involves any great change but should concern only
code changes to permit the use of Prefab buildings using a stud smaller than the
standard 2" x 4".
I~ conclusion_i~ is the opinion of the writer that,the Prenco House is a
matter of buyer's choice, and a person desiI'ing such a home will find it as sturdy
as the .standard type constructed house."

it to be, made clear that we have no ob,jection whatever. In fact, we heartily
approve the balance of this, ord.inance, as pertains, to caps, fireworks, of every
kind, however., we feel the matter of cap guns is rathe,r in,consistent and pena-
lizes a number of locaL merchants, who are poss,ibly discriminated 'against in this
: respect. We would call to your attention that, practically every boy in town
I already has at least one cap gun; "Buck Rogers" or, similar" being, the most popular.
I They play with them all the time, wi thout caps - (Which.,are usually not. available
anyway.) Where do they buy them?-in, "fringe" stores, Springfield and neighboring
towns, or mail order or they receive.them as birthday presents from relatives in
oth,er towns, that, do- permit sale of thes,e guns.
Airguns, B-B guns, etc. are more dangerous, but they are being sold
and fired, in the City right now.

suggest that "cap guns" be stricken from this ordinance, the balance of the

in the Eugene Register-Guard, and in case of favorable report on any of said re-
quests, a hearing is hereby called to be held at the City Hall at the next en-
suing regular Council meeting, commencing at 7:30 o'clock P.M., notice of which

A" petition of J. E. Leach, et ale re: the opening of 23rd Street West
was presented to the Council. and. upon. mO.tion was ordered..laid on the table.
Attorney DonaldR. Husband appeared befor.e the.Counci.l. on behalf of his
42 client Mr. Joe Chiaramonte stating that Mr. Chiaramonte was remodeling the Del
Rey Cafe and installing bar facilities for operation under his present restaurant
license. No action. was taken in the matter. by the Common Council.
A deed for portions of West 17th and Friendly Avenue for street purposes.,.
43 was submitted by C.W. Wilcox and upon motion the proper city officers were autho-
rized. to accept the deed and file the same..
A deed for street purposes was submitted by Mr. John R. Chapman and
44 wife and upon motion this deed was ordered referred to the Judiciary Committee and
City Attorney for' further study.
