City Manager
APPOINTING SHERRI A. MEISEL AS THE CITY'S ACTING IN
CAPACITY CHIEF OF POLICE FOR A SPECIFIED PERIOD OF TIME.
The City Manager of the City of Eugene finds that:
A. Under the provisions of Chapter IV, Section 16 of the Eugene Charter of 2002, the
City Manager is designated as the administrative head of the City, and is specifically authorized
to appoint and remove all employees (except as otherwise provided in the Charter), and to enforce
all ordinances of the City.
B. Chief of Police Pete M. Kerns ("Kerns") will retire effective April 28, 2017 at 11:59
p.m.
C. The City and Kerns have entered into a contract that provides for Kerns to act as
the City's Interim Chief of Police beginning May 2, 2017 at 12:01 a.m.
D. It is necessary to appoint an Acting in Capacity (AIC) Chief of Police for the period
of time between Kern's retirement, and the time that he assumes the position of Interim Chief of
Police under the contract.
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Manager of the City of Eugene orders and directs
that:
1. Sherri A. Meisel is appointed as the City's AIC Chief of Police beginning April 28,
2017 at 11:59 p.m. and ending on May 2, 2017 at 12:01 a.m.

2. This Administrative Order shall automatically be repealed on May 2, 2017 at 12:01
