Cone with the fo1low- Mr. Cha~t, Mrs. Lauris, Messrs. Crakes, Hawk, Purdy, Anderson, and Lassen. Minutes of the regular Council meeting held on December 13, 1965, as mailed to members of the Council, were approved. NEW BUSINESS 1 Mayor Cone opened nominations for president of the Council for the year 1966. Councilman Chatt nominated Councilman Ray Hawk, and the nomination was seconded by Councilman Purdy. e Mrs. Lauris moved seconded by Mr. Chatt that the nominations be closed and a unanimous ballot cast for Councilman Hawk. Motion carried, and Ceunci1man Hawk was unanimously elected president of the Council for the year 1966. 2 1 3 Mayor Cone delivered his annual report to the Council and the citizens of Eugene. Street Repair, Bethel-Danebo Area - The City Manager stated the city faces the prob- lem of determining who would be responsible for replacing streets torn up by sewer construction in the Bethel-Danebo area. Additional expense is encountered in repair- ing streets which break up partially as a result of the sew~r construction and par- tially as a result of initial substandard construction. Several'Council members had viewed the streets under discussion, and it was suggested that the City pay for re- pairing the streets with an overlay which might carry through until the storm sewer construction program has been completed. At that time it would be expected that the owners of abutting properties will pay for rebuilding the stre~ts to City specifica- tions. It was recommended that the staff bring back a report on approximate cost to the City for street repair and what streets would come under the program. 2. Widenin~ 6th and 7th Avenues - The City Manager reported that the City staff had met with the State Highway Department staff relative to the proposed widening of 6th and 7th Avenues. The State tentatively agreed to widening of , 6th and 7th Avenues to 52 feet fromcurb to curb between Lawrence and High Streets. The State will pay 75% of the cost, and the City, 25%.
