COUNCILORS PRESENT: Freeman Holmer, Emily Schue, Ruth Bascom, Jeff
Miller, Roger Rutan, Cynthia Wooten
Commission Chair Bill Rogers and Mayor Brian Obie called the work session
to order.
e Commissioners and Councilors discussed the task force report on the
Shelton-McMurphey House (see attached summary of discussion).
The work session was adjourned at 1:15 p.m.

12:00 p.m. JOINT LUNCHEON WITH CITY COUNCIL McMurphey House
Chair Bill Rogers presided with John Ball, Steve Cornacchia, Ellie Dumdi and
Gerald Rust present. Judy Haldeman, Recording Secretary.
Rogers thanked the task force and welcomed the City Council from Eugene.
Margaret Sol i nski presented the Board members and City Council members wi th
souvenir packets from the Eugene Celebration and mentioned some of the high-
lights from the upcoming celebration. Jim Johnson, County Administrator,
presented the Board and City Council members with a copy of the new Official
~ Visitors Guide for Lane County. Ruth Bascom, Council Member, shared a record-
ing made by the Canadian Broadcasting Company during the Bach Festival. Mayor
Brian Obie announced the birthday celebration at the Hu1t Center at 5:30 p.m.
Johnson offi ci ally we1 comed everyone to the 99-year-01 d She1 ton-McMurphey
House and applauded the hard work done by the task force in preparing their
report on it. Johnson summarized the report (see material on file) and
announced that Martha Frankel would be the curator temporarily. Discussion
followed regarding the use of the second floor of the residence as office
space versus keeping it open to the public, developing the grounds and revenue
sources. Frankel described the benefits and the problems of using the entire
residence as a museum. Obie offered the support of the City of Eugene in any
area and stated that it was a responsibil ity of those present to have the
house here 100 years from now.
The task force will report back to the Board with more details at a later date. I
