The special dinner meeting of the Eugene City Council was called to order by His Honor, Mayor Jeff Miller. I. DISCUSSION OF INTERVIEW QUESTIONS FOR WARD SIX VACANCY Councilors identified the following questions as those they would ask each of the candidates for the Ward 6 council position: 1. What is your perception of the library issue on the March 28 ballot and was it appropriate to refer the matter to the voters? 2. What are the most pressing needs of the community? 3. What would be your top priority as a City Councilor? 4. What is your assessment of the current local economy, and what should be done about it? 5. What strategy would you employ in addressing the current $1.7 million budget shortfall? 6. Why would you be a good representative of Ward 6? 7. What is your response to the Peterson Barn public forum straw ballot? 8. Are there any questions we have not asked that you would like to answer? Councilors agreed to begin each interview by asking the candidate to introduce himself. MINUTES--City Council Special Meeting February 6, 1989 Page 1 ~ II. COUNCIL INTERVIEWS FOR WARD SIX VACANCY The following candidates were interviewed by the council: Bobby Green, Darrell Grundman, Arden Munkres, Rick Perrigo, Ricky Thomas, James Whetstine. III. DISCUSSION OF CANDIDATES FOR WARD SIX VACANCY Councilors discussed each candidate's performance during his interview and agreed to consider Mr. Green, Mr. Grundman, and Mr. Munkres as finalists for the position. After further discussion, consensus was reached that balloting would be conducted at the council's February 8 meeting, with all three names appearing on the first ballot. Councilors would vote for two candidates and a final ballot would determine which of the two candidates receiving the most votes would be appointed to fill the Ward Six vacancy.
