HomeMy WebLinkAbout11.14.2018 Downtown Duties HandoutDOWNTOWN AMBASSADORS - EXPECTATIONS & RESPONSIBLITIES • PRESENCE: Ensure downtown parks and public spaces are safe and welcoming for all: Ambassadors will patrol on foot through Park Blocks, Kesey Square, public spaces, right-of-way areas and as -needed nearby urban parks, such as Monroe Park, to deter unwanted activity through uniformed visible presence. • OBSERVE & REPORT: While on patrol, Ambassadors shall be watchful for unwanted behaviors or criminal activity and report to the EPD Downtown Office dispatch via established radio communication methods or to 911 depending on the severity of the situation. • ADDRESS UNWANTED ACTIVITIES: Ambassadors will firmly and courteously request compliance to persons violating low-level quality of life crimes, such as open containers, aggressive panhandling, sleeping in prohibited areas, loitering, disruptive behavior, etc. • HOSPITALITY AND CUSTOMER SERVICE: While on patrol, it's expected that Ambassadors go out of their way to actively acknowledge downtown patrons and park users with a friendly greeting or identify visitors in order to provide directions, information, assist with parking needs or provide recommendations. • SUPPORT DOWNTOWN ACTIVITIES AND EVENTS: Ambassadors will help support activities, events and initiatives sponsored by other departments and entities. This may include; setting up/taking down equipment for events, providing security presence during events, assistance planning events and promotion of activities as needed. • CLEANLINESS: Ambassadors will help keep downtown clean by routinely wiping down tables and chairs, picking -up trash and notifying Facilities staff of larger maintenance issues as needed. Ambassadors will open park restroom and serve as a monitor to ensure the public restroom is welcoming to all users. If there are any issues, the restroom will be locked for safety and/or to prevent vandalism. • STAKEHOLDER RELATIONS: Ambassadors will be responsible for making regular contact with Facilities staff, EPD, DEI Red Hats, Library, Atrium and Parking security services and Day Storage service, as well as visits, as needed, to adjacent businesses to share information and make professional contacts on behalf of the City of Eugene. • PROFESSIONALISM: Ambassadors maintain a positive and professional presence at all times. • REPORTING: Ambassadors shall utilize a mobile device system to report and track activities and incidents.
