ISSUE STATEMENT
This is a work session to select an executive search firm to lead the Police Auditor recruitment process.
BACKGROUND
The position of Police Auditor was vacant as of August 22, 2008. In a council work session on August
11, 2008, the council passed a motion to hire a recruiter to assist with the recruitment and selection of a
Police Auditor and create a timeline. On September 10, 2008, the council recommended three firms to
be forwarded for further consideration in this process. The recommended firms were interviewed by
telephone on September 17.

This work item relates to the council values of a “Safe Community” and “Effective, Accountable
Municipal Government.”
COUNCIL OPTIONS
1. Select a firm to contract with for the Police Auditor recruitment process.
2. Review other firms for additional consideration.
CITY MANAGER’S RECOMMENDATION
None; the Police Auditor is an employee of the City Council.
SUGGESTED MOTION
Move to hire _________________ executive recruitment firm to provide services related to the
recruitment and selection of the Police Auditor.
