HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC Minutes - 10/07/02 Work Session MINUTES Eugene City Council Boards and Commissions Interviews October 7, 2002 5:30 p.m. COUNCILORS PRESENT: Betty Taylor, David Kelly, Pat Fart, Nancy Nathanson, Scott Meisner, Gary Rayor, Bonny Bettman. COUNCILORS ABSENT: Gary Pap~. Councilors interviewed applicants for the Human Rights Commission and the Eugene Budget Committee. Human Rights Commission applicants were asked the following questions: 1. What, in your opinion, is City government's role in addressing human rights? 2. Which do you consider to be the most vulnerable communities in Eugene and why? 3. Please give an example of a conflict situation you Ye been in and tell us how you resolved it. 4. What is one thing you appreciate about Eugene and one thing you find irritating and would like to change and why? The applicants for the Human Rights Commission were: · Christina Greening · Matthew Hasek · Mary Martinez-Wenzl · Melissa Mona · Sidney Moore, Jr. · Meredith Price Budget Committee applicants were asked the following questions: 1. Why did you apply for the Budget Committee and what do you hope to contribute ? 2. A) In your opinion, which issues should be given highest priority by the Budget Committee over the next four years? B) Which of these do you consider to be the most important issue, and why? MINUTES--Eugene City Council September 23, 2002 Page 1 Regular Meeting 3. The Budget Committee meets six to eight times in the spring to review the proposed budget. Citizen members of the Budget Committee a/so may meet throughout the year on projects assigned to them by the council /n past years, the committee recommended funding strategies for upgrading our transportation system and our regiona/ pub~lc safety data co//ection system. This year, they wi//be providing options to the City Council on a riving wage ordinance. Citizen members wi//a/so meet with City staff on at/east three occasions to review service profi/e updates. Are you interested in such an active ro/e? Why or why not? 4. Do you have suggestions for ways the City may improve citizen understanding and input into our budget priorities and process?
