Interviews for Boards, Commissions, and Committees

COUNCILORS PRESENT: Betty Taylor, David Kelly, Nancy Nathanson, Scott Meisner Gary
Rayor, Bonny Bettman, Pat Farr.
COUNCILORS ABSENT: Gary PapS.
INTERVIEWS FOR BOARDS, COMMISSIONS, AND COMMITTEES
Council President Taylor called the meeting to order.
The City Council interviewed the following individuals to fill vacancies on the Planning
Commission: Marlene Colbath, Jerry Drucks, John Lawless, Kim Leval, Kevin Matthews Greg
Ringer, and Aaron Walker. Each candidate was asked the following questions:
1. Why did you apply for the Planning Commission and what do you hope to contribute?
2. In your opinion, what issue should be given highest priority by the Planning
Commission over the next four years? Why do you consider this the most important
issue?
3. The Planning Commission must often balance competing interests when developing
planning documents and making land use decisions. In your opinion, what are the
most important factors for the Planning Commission to consider in its decision-making?
4. Please share your views on how the Planning Commission can foster community
involvement as a whole, in long-range planning projects.
5. Do you have any questions for us? Is there anything you would like to add?
Following each interview, councilors shared impressions of the candidate.
The City Council interviewed the following individuals to fill vacancies on the Budget Committee:
Michael Barclay, Jennifer Solomon, and Robert Wallace. Each candidate was asked the following
questions:
1. Why did you apply for the Budget Committee and what do you hope to contribute?
2. A) In your opinion, which issues should be given highest priority by the Budget
Committee over the next four years?

B) Which of these do you consider to be the most important issue, and why?
3. The Budget Committee meets six to eight times in the spring to review the Proposed
Budget. Citizen members of the Budget Committee also may meet throughout the year
on projects assigned to them by the council. In the past year, they recommended
funding strategies for upgrading our transportation system and our regional public
safety data collection system. Citizen members also met with city staff on three
occasions to review service profile updates. Are you interested in such an active role?
Why or why not?
4. Do you have suggestions for ways the City may improve citizen understanding and
input into our budget priorities and process?
5. Do you have any questions of us? Is there anything you'd like to add?
Following each interview, councilors shared impressions of the candidate.
