Boards and Commissions Interviews

COUNCILORS PRESENT: Betty Taylor, David Kelly, Gary Pap~, Gary Rayor, Bonny Bettman.
COUNCILORS ABSENT: Nancy Nathanson, Pat Farr, Scott Meisner.
BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS INTERVIEW
The following applicant was invited to interview for appointment to the Planning Commission:
Kevin Matthews
Ms. Taylor welcomed Mr. Matthews to his scheduled interview. She explained that each
interview would last 15 minutes and councilors would ask each candidate the same questions.
She indicated that absent members of the council would have tape recordings of the interviews
and copies of candidates' applications made available to them and the council would make its
decision the following week.
Councilors posed the following questions to Mr. Matthews:
1 .Why did you apply for the Planning Commission and what do you hope to contribute?
2.A) In your opinion, which issues should be given highest priority by the Planning Commission
over the next four years?
B) Which of these do you consider to be the most important issue, and why?
3,The Planning Commission must often balance competing interests when developing planning
documents and making land use decisions. In your opinion, what are the most important
factors for the Planning Commission to consider in its decision making?
4.Please share your views on how the Planning Commission can foster community involvement
as a whole, in long-range planning projects.
5.Briefly, what is your top strategy for increasing density within the UGB? What is your top
strategy for revitalizing downtown?
