Interviews for Boards, Commissions, and Committees

COUNCILORS PRESENT: Betty Taylor, David Kelly, Nancy Nathanson, Scott Meisner, Gary
Rayor, Gary Pap~, Bonny Bettman.
COUNCILORS ABSENT: Pat Fart.
INTERVIEWS FOR BOARDS, COMMISSIONS, AND COMMITTEES
Council President Taylor called the meeting to order.
The City Council interviewed the following individuals to fill vacancies on the Human Rights
Commission: Jordan Bishko, George Brooks, John Cochrun, Melinda Dille, Mary Martinez-Wenzl,
Melissa Mona, William Northrup, Surendra Subramani, and Robert Williams. Each candidate was
asked the following questions:
1. Why do you want to be a Human Rights Commissioner? What would the community
gain? How would being a commissioner benefit you?
2. What, in your opinion, is City government's role in addressing human rights?
3. Who do you consider to be the most vulnerable communities in Eugene and why?
4. What do you feel are the most important issues facing members of those vulnerable
communities in Eugene and what are your ideas to address those issues?
5. Please give an example of a conflict situation you've been in and tell us how you
resolved it.
6. What human rights work have you done in the community?
7. What's one thing you appreciate about Eugene and what's one thing you find irritating
and would like to change and why?
Following each interview, councilors shared impressions of the candidate.
The meeting adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
