COUNCILORS ABSENT: Pat Farr, Bobby Lee, Gary Pap~. I. CALL TO ORDER The adjourned April 21, 1999, Eugene City Council meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. ~n the Mayor's absence, Council President Scott Meisner presided. II. HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION INTERVIEWS The following applicants were invited to interview for appointment to the Human Rights Commission: Raquel Hecht Will Blasher, Jr. Don Addison Charles Smith Nadia Sindi Sara Rich Ilisa Rooke-Ley Carol Calkins Robert Zenuch Andrea Ortiz phone interview with Laura Stockford. Mr. Meisner welcomed each Human Rights Commission candidate to his/her scheduled interview and introduced the councilors present. He explained that each interview would last 15 minutes and councilors would ask a total of 4 questions. Mr. Meisner indicated that absent members of the council would have tape recordings of the interviews and copies of candidates' applications made available to them and the council would make its decision at its meeting on May 10. Councilors posed the following questions: 1. What are your specific ideas to address the important issues facing members of vulnerable communities in Eugene? lA. Please give an example of a conflict situation you've been in and tell us how you resolved it. 3. As a human rights advocate, what do you consider your strengths and weaknesses? 4. If you were sitting on this side of the table what questions would you ask and how should they be answered? Mr. Meisner thanked each applicant after his/her interview and said staff would be in touch with them. The council briefly discussed the candidates' qualifications after each interview. Ms. Nathanson arrived at the meeting prior to the second interview. The meeting adjourned at 9:30 p.m. Respectfully submitted, James R.
