ABSENT: Pat Farr, Laurie Swanson Gribskov I. APPLICANT INTERVIEWS FOR THE HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION The council welcomed Norma Dominguez. Councilors introduced themselves. Mr. Tollenaar explained the interview process and said that absent councilors would receive copies of the meeting tape prior to a council work session to select the successful candidates. Ms. Dominguez was asked the following questions: 1. What do you feel are the most important issues facing members of vulnerable communities in Eugene? What are your ideas to address those issues? 2. What do you perceive to be the role of the Human Rights Commission in assisting to solve those issues? 3. As a human rights advocate, what do you consider your strengths and weaknesses? 4. Why do you want to be a human rights commissioner? Ms. Dominguez asked the councilors what each of them had done in their district for minority communities. Mr. Tollenaar thanked Ms. Dominguez and said that she would be contacted after the council met on Wednesday, May 27. The councilors briefly shared impressions of the candidate. Mr. Lee joined the meeting at 5:25 p.m. The council welcomed Chuck Dalton, and councilors introduced themselves. The council asked Mr. Dalton the same series of questions asked of Ms. Dominguez. At the conclusion of the interview, Mr. Tollenaar thanked Mr. Dalton and indicated that absent councilors would listen to tapes of the interview before the council made its final selections on May 27. Mr. Laue joined the meeting at 6:00 p.m. The council welcomed Madeline Hoffman and introduced themselves. The council asked Ms. Hoffman the same questions asked of the previous candidates for the Human Rights Commission. At the conclusion of the interview, Mr. Tollenaar thanked Ms. Hoffman and said that absent councilors would listen to tapes of the interview prior to the council making a final candidate selection on May 27. Staff would contact the candidates to let them know of the council's selection. The councilors briefly shared impressions of the candidate. The council welcomed Mary Wirtz. Councilors introduced themselves. Ms. Wirtz said that she would like to withdraw her name from consideration for appointment to the Human Rights Commission due to her appointment to another committee. The council thanked her. Ms. Nathanson joined the meeting at 6:30 p.m. The council welcomed Marshall Kandall. Councilors introduced themselves. The council asked Mr. Kandall the same series of questions asked of previous candidates. At the conclusion of the interview, Mr. Tollenaar thanked Mr. Kandall. He indicated that absent councilors would listen to tapes of the interview before the council made its final selections on May 27. Staff would contact candidates to let them know of the council's decision. The councilors briefly shared impressions of the candidate. The council welcomed Marcy Middleton, and councilors introduced themselves. The council asked Ms. Middleton the same series of questions asked of previous candidates. At the conclusion of the interview, Mr. Tollenaar thanked Ms. Middleton and indicated that absent councilors would listen to tapes of the interview before the council made its final selections on May 27.
