HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance No. 20032oRDaavANCE No. AN ORDINANCE CONCERNING THE CHANGE OF NAME OF BUSINESS STREET, LOCATED NORTH OF WEST 11TH AVENUE, APPRO~IlVIATELY 40o FEET WEST OF COMMERCE STREET. The City Council of the City of Eugene finds that: A. Business Street is located north of West 11th Avenue within the City of Eugene, extending approximately 400 feet to Commerce Street. B. Court Sports, which is located at 4242 Commerce Street, Eugene, Oregon, has requested that the name of "Business Street" be changed to "Commerce Street. " All abutting property owners have concurred with this request, as the existing businesses located along Business Street currently have Commerce Street addresses. C. Changing the name of "Business Street" to "Commerce Street" will eliminate location confusion, and ensure that emergency service personnel are able to respond to calls at the proper location. D. The City's Planning Commission held a public hearing on the request that the name of Business Street be changed to Commerce Street, and no opposition to the proposed name change has been received. The request has been initiated by Court Sports, and the Council has been advised that the proposed change of name will eliminate the confusion that currently exists. E. Notice of a public hearing to be held on the 4th day of December, 1995 at the Council Chambers, City Hall, Eugene, Oregon, at 7:30 o'clock p.m. was duly published in the Register Guard, a newspaper of general circulation within the City, at least once during the week immediately preceeding the hearing, to-wit, on November 2d, 1995. NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY OF EUGENE DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS; i n 1. The name and designation of Business, located north of West 11th Avenue, extending approximately 400 feet to Commerce Street within the City of Eugene is hereby changed to Commerce Street. i n 2. The City Manager is requested to cause appropriate signs to be installed indicating that Business, as described in Section 1 above, is now Commerce Street. In actuality, Commerce Street has been blocked off by a batting cage and driving range facility, C ourtsports Athletic Club sits in the island and originally faced Commerce Street. Hovv~er, new construction placed its entrance facing the block- long `Business Street." Their address has continued to be 4242 Commerce by the post office, and all emergency departments, Confusion could develop unless Business Street is dropped from the map and Commerce Street is shown as a loop back to West 11th.
