RESOLUTION NO. 4746
A RESOLUTION NAMING THE RUTH BASCOM
RIVERBANK TRAIL SYSTEM.
The City Council of the City of Eugene finds that:
A. Ruth Bascom has for many years been one of the City's most active advocates with
respect to development of bicycle and walking trails throughput the City. Most notably:
She has shared with the community her visioQ. that development of the bicycle and
walking trails along the City's pristine riverba$s was a critical element of the City's
long-range bicycle-pedestrian trail system;
As Chair of the Eugene Bicycle Committee duting the early years of development of
the riverbank trail system she actively pursue<l opportunities to extend the system;
She was instrumental in gaining funding for the Greenway Bicycle Bridge, which is
centrally located within the trail system;
As Mayor, she continued to be supportive of the expansion and completion of the
riverbank trail system.
B. Although the riverbank trails in Eugene ha,* never been officially named, they
consist of the West Bank Trail, East Bank Trail, North Bank Trail, and the South Bank Trail. The
scheduled January 2003 completion of the East Bank Trail will signify the completion of a full loop
of trails approximately 9 miles long around the river betweem the Owosso Bicycle Bridge and the
Autzen Footbridge,
c. In recognition of the contributions of Ruth Bascom in achieving completion of this
Resolution - 1
project, the riverbank trail system should be named the Ruth Bascom Riverbank Trail System.
NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EUGENE, a
Municipal Corporation of the State of Oregon, as follows:
Section 1. Based on the above findings, and in appreciation of the contributions noted
therein, the City's riverbank trail system, consisting of the West Bank Trail, East Bank Trail, North
Bank Trail, and South Bank Trail, is hereby named the Ruth Bascom Riverbank Trail System.
Section 2. Appropriate signs shall be posted identifying each individual trail as part of the
Ruth Bascom Riverbank Trail System.
Section 3. The City Recorder is requested to forward a copy of this Resolution to -Ruth
Bascom.
Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption.
The foregoing Resolution adopted this 13th day of January, 2003.
