DATE SUBMITTED: October 10, 2000 PASSED: 6/1 OPPOSED: Pape' ABSENT: Nathanson REJECTED: DEFERRED TO: RESOLUTION NUMBER 4651 A RESOLUTION TO SUPPORT THE NOVEMBER 2000 GENERAL ELECTION BALLOT MEASURE 84 BY THE EUGENE CITY COUNCIL. WHEREAS, Ballot Measure 84 which is on the November 7,2000, general election ballot, would amend the Oregon Constitution to retain the requirement that the State pay local governments for costs of State-mandated programs; and WHEREAS, the failure of Ballot Measure 84 would have an undetermined cost to local governments in Oregon; and WHEREAS, the Oregon Constitution currently provides that the State pay for State- mandated programs to the City of Eugene, a local government, and the citizens of Eugene should not be responsible for paying for State-mandated programs. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EUGENE, A Municipal Corporation of the State of Oregon, that the Eugene City Council supports Ballot Measure 84.
