A SPECIAL ORDINANCE WAIVING THE BUDGET COMMITTEE TERM
LIMITATION FUR THE 1999 APPOINTMENTS; AND DECLARING AN
EMERGENCY,
The City Council of the City of Eugene finds that:
A. Section 2. o 13 ~ 11 }fib}, of the Eugene Code,1971, provides that members of the budget
committee be appointed for terms of three years, and subsequently, upon Council approval, maybe
reappointed once to the position upon expiration of the member's term.
B. The City Council wishes to waive for the 1999 appointments only the requirement
that limits the budget committee members to two terms.
Now, THEREFORE,
THE CITY OF EUGENE DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. The limitation on budget committee member's terms in Section 2.01311}fib} of
the Eugene Code, 1971 is hereby waived for the 1999 appointment process only, and the City
Council may reappoint members who have already served two terms.
Section 2. To provide for the appointment process to go forward as scheduled on May 10,
1999, an emergency is declared to exist, and this ordinance shall become effective immediately upon
its passage by the City Council and approval by the Mayor, retention by the Mayor for more than ten
days or readoption over a mayoral veto by twoWthirds of all members of the City Council.
