HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance No. 19379ORDINANCE NO. 19379 AN ORDINANCE CONCERNING THE CHANGE OF NAME 0 F REGENT AVENUE TO BOARDWALK AVENUE; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. The City Council of the City of Eugene finds that: Residents of a 130 foot portion of Regent Avenue have requested a change of name of that portion of the street to Boardwalk. The ortion in uestion is se orate f p q p rom the rest of Regent Avenue, and a review of the vTClnity map reflects that the extension of Regent Avenue is Board walk. The request has been reviewed by City staff, and it appears that this portion of the street should have been renamed when the Park Place Subdivision was built, but was overlooked. The Planning Commission of the City of Eugene did, on February 10 1956 hold a public hearing on the request. Referrals were sent to 1l affected parties,~and no objections or opposition to the change of name were received or presented at the hearing, and the Planning Commission recommended to the City Council that the portion of the street known as Regent Avenue as described on Exhibit A hereto be changed to Boardwalk Avenue, Notice of a public hearing to be held on the 19th day of March, 1956 in the Council Chambers, City Hall, Eugene, Oregon, at 11:45 a.m. o.f said day, was.duly published in the Eugene Register•~Guard, a newspa er of eneral _ c~rculatTOn within t e ~ p g h city, at least once during the week ~mmed~ate1y proceeding the hearing, to•~wit, on thel0th day of March, 19SG. At t that time and place, the Council heard all objections and comments with respect to the change of name of Re ent Avenue to Boardwalk A e g v nue. NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY OF EUGENE DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The City Council of the City of Eugene finds that due and regular notice of the hearing on the change of name of Regent Avenue to Boardwalk Avenue was published as by law required and that no valid objections have been made at the hearing or filed herein, and the ublic interest w~11 not be re 'u ' P p ~ diced by the change of name. Section Z. The name and designation of the portion of the present Regent Avenue as described in Exhibit A, attached hereto, is hereby changed to Boardwalk Avenue. Section 3. The City Manager shall cause appropriate signs to be insta]led indicating that Regent Avenue is now Boardwalk Avenue. Section 4. That certified copies of this Ordinance shall be filed with the Lane County Recorder, Lane County Assessor, and the Lane County Surveyor. Section 5. That the matters contained herein concern the public wel- fare and safety and therefore, an emergency is hereby dec]ared to exist, and this Ordinance shall become effective immediately upon its passage by the City Council and approval by the Mayor.
