HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance No. 19160ORDINANCE NO. ~~~Q AN ORDINANCE CONCERNING ELECTIONS; AMENDING SECTION 2.981 OF THE EUGENE CODE, 1971; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. THE CITY OF EUGENE DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS; Section 1. Subsections 4.2 } and ~ 3 ~ of Section 2.9 81 of the Eugene Cade, 1971, are hereby amended to read and provide: 2.9$1 Elections -~ Initiative and Referendum, voting on Measure. ~2~ The time for voting on legislation submitted to the electors under subsection ~l~ of this section shall be the first primary or general election. held more than 94 days after the finance officer certifies verification under section 2.979 of the signatures on the petition for so submitting the legis- lation, unless the council calls an earlier special election far voting on the legislation. The special election may not be held earlier than 6D days after verification of the peti- tion. X32 An ordinance adopted by the council and referred by petition shall be submitted to the electors by the finance officer at the times required or perr~itted by subsection ~2~ of this section. Section 2. That the matters contained herein affect the public welfare, and in order to provide for the orderly administration of the City's election procedures, an emergency is hereby declared to exist, and this Ordinance shall become effective immediately upon its passage by the City Council and approval by the Mayor.
