ISSUE STATEMENT
This is a work session for Eric Middleton, executive recruiter from Alliance Resource Consulting, to
present the candidate pool for the position of Police Auditor to the council in executive session. Mr.
Middleton will present information about candidates collected during the recruitment process (via
conference call) and give his professional recommendations regarding the top candidates.
BACKGROUND
The position of Police Auditor has been vacant since August 22, 2008. The application deadline for this
recruitment was December 8, 2008. Following an interview process February 23-25, Council decided to
adjust the minimum qualifications and reopen the recruitment through March 26, 2009. Mr. Middleton
will present the updated candidate pool and get the council’s direction on the next steps, including which
candidates they would like to move forward in the interview process. In order to expedite the interview
process, staff will seek confirmation by the council after the executive session about the interview
process components and possible interview dates.
RELATED CITY POLICIES
This item is not directly related to a City policy. However, the hiring of a Police Auditor relates to the
council values of a “Safe Community” and “Effective, Accountable Municipal Government.”
COUNCIL OPTIONS
The council may:

Direct Mr. Middleton and Alliance Resource Consulting to arrange for candidates they select to
move forward to the interview process for this position and include possible interview dates for
this process.

Direct Mr. Middleton and Alliance Resource Consulting to reopen the recruitment.
?
Approve the use of the previous interview components, including questions, individual panel
members, community panel members, etc.
CITY MANAGER’S RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends approval of the same interview process components, questions, individual
stakeholders and panels.
